FROST'S BEST OF 2014 | UPDATE #7
|
# 16 | TVXQ! - "Tense"
This album provides a lot of jazz and funky tracks supported by strong vocals. I love the suave vocals in "Off-Road", and various other tracks such as "Double Trouble." They have really evolved their style into something which they could classify as their own. This album proves how talented and diverse the group are. No matter what happens to them they seem to come back strong. I didn't think as a two-piece I would enjoy them, but they are truly talented.
BEST TRACKS: Off-Road, Something, Double Trouble, Steppin'
WORST TRACKS: TEN (10 YEARS), Beside... |
|
# 15 | WINNER - "2014 S/S"
I become quite frustrated when a song featured on a group's album consists of just on of it's vocalists (unless it's Jaejoong from JYJ ), however, "Confession" by Taehyun is beautiful and one of the best tracks of the album. What I initially thought of a overrated new boy group has become one of the best K-pop acts this year. The album tracks are memorable with each injected with personality and great vocals. They're versatile group that have the potential to become huge.
BEST TRACKS: Don't Flirt, Smile Again, Confession, Color Ring
WORST TRACKS: Tonight |
|
# 14 | HA:TFELT - "Me?"
So much goodness from one mini-album was not what I expected from Lenny. Most k-pop albums are watered down by bland ballads which lack personality, originality and diversity. However Lenny has incorporated contemporary trends in her music and reworked them in her style making them unique and most definitely memorable. She has a powerhouse voice which makes the album an enjoyable listen.
BEST TRACKS: Ain't Nobody, Wherever Together, Iron Girl, Peter Pan
WORST TRACKS: Daun (Nothing Last's Forever) |
|
MATTHEW KOMA
Very unlikely for a mainly a featured artist to claim the award for 'best male', however Matthew Koma has had an impact in 2014's year of music. He was featured on one of my favorite tracks "Find You", which I love because of his vocals. "Wasted" with Tiesto, was another track this year which I took great admiration to. His vocals add a very luxurious layer to the songs he is featured on and almost make me enjoy any track despite what genre. I just hope he releases more solo material in 2015, if not, I am sure we'll hear him again on upcoming hit records.
BEST WESTERN MALE |
| BASTILLE
Indie band Bastille are not normally a group I would take the time to listen to, however their release of "Pompeii" provided me a reason to check out the rest of their music. Although they are labelled a rock band, I find them more pop with minor rock influences. They are extremely experimental and feature a range of genres and styles in their music. This is only one of their awesome features which make their music so good. The second reason I like the band is because of Dan Smith's voice. It's rare to find a voice in pop which is addictive and wants you to listen on more and more, especially in a male vocalist.
BEST WESTERN BAND |
#40 | Clean Bandit (f/ Jess Glynne) - "Rather Be" - Significantly grew on me the more listens. Not usually a fan of this rare type of music, but this song has helped me appreciate it.
#39 | AAA - "SHOWTIME" -As I said, their era this time coming is slightly disappointing, but because I stan for the group and it's members I still enjoy the track. SHOWTIME is the dance single of this era which is a great listen.
#38 | Marina & The Diamonds - "Froot" - My new artist whom I shall stan in 2015. This track is lyrically creative with a great disco vibe.
#37 | LedApple - "Greatest World"- My first track I listened to in 2014. It's a great shame they have disbanded now. I will miss Hanbyul's vocals
#36 | One Direction - "Night Changes" - Biggest guilty pleasure of the year. I HATE how I love this song Their untalented, however the artist direction has made me appreciate their music.
#35 Koda Kumi| - "Hotel" - I have snubbed poor old Kuu for a couple of years now, but this was a song that got me back into her music.
#34 | B1A4 - "Lonely" - This band release amazing singles. This toned down one is emotional and sung beautifully by the members.
#33 | Ella Henderson - "Glow" - Why people disliked this single is beyond me. It's not the most radio friendly song nor is that catchy to the GP, but I love the ambiance of the song. It's quite dark.
#32 | Ayumi Hamasaki - "XOXO" - At first I thought. Ayu, what the hell are you doing!?!? But I love her voice and it's nice for to release a fun song with a great hook.
#31 | 5 Seconds of Summer - "Amnesia" - The best teen pop/rock ballad of the year! The vocals are so raw and emotional as they're sung over light instrumental. The lyrics are also original which I didn't expect from a band like this. |
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR COMMENTS!
