She absolutely has no reason to say mean things about an artist out of nowhere. If you were a new face in the industry, you would have to make friends and connections. She wouldn't destroy her friendship (or a chance to create one) with someone like Katy just to get some Twitter attention. She very well knows Katy can damage her career with one tweet.
Imagine meeting your fave and being bullied, that would suck.
