Now, I like both girls pretty equally so there is no bias here, but I have to be honest.

For the most part, Britney does not write her own songs with the exception of a few here or there. Most of her tracks are composed by the most high-profile producers in the industry. Avril basically writes all of her material on every album, and she even has production credits on 2 songs from her last album. Better vocal abilities? - Britney barely ever sings, she pretends too. And when you actually hear her voice, it's nothing that impressive. Nothing on Avril anyway, despite that Avril herself is not a powerhouse. Britney is (well, was) the better dancer obviously, so I will give you that and the non-music roles.
