Name: Jack
Shoe Size: 8 1/2 and proof that the show size myth has no actual merit
Songwriting Background: I remember writing my first song before I could even write I think. I just decided that I liked the stuff on the radio and I wanted to make my own song. It was terrible and called "Roller Coaster Road". I continued to write stupid elementary school songs with my friends throughout my childhood. Then when I was 15 I started writing serious, real songs. The first few were angry, stuff I had been holding back for years. And since the I've taken songwriting classes and cowritten some great stuff, even singing them it in front of 50 people (and covers in front of 1500+ people). Lately I've been on a great streak. I've already written 4 songs this month. So hopefully that can get me far.
Favorite Songwriters: Skylar Grey, Dan Reynolds, Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves
Favorite Song Lyrically: "Love the Way You Lie" and "Invisible" by Skylar Grey, "Follow Your Arrow" by Kacey Musgraves, "Demons" by Imagine Dragons, "Who You Are" by Jessie J

In addition to FYA, I loooove the lyrics to Silver Lining.
Cause if you're ever gonna find a four leaf clover
You gotta get a little dirt on your hands
And if you wanna find a head that fits your shoulder
You're gonna have to go to the dance

I just finished mine. I write a lot of songs like this, so I changed it from my usual "be yourself, you're perfect" type of song to a "I'm here to f* things up and party". So basically, more of a "Hair" than a "I Was Here". Hopefully going out of my comfort zone in my own area of songwriting wasn't a mistake in the first round, but I'm pretty proud of it.
Also, if I remember from reading last season's thread correctly, we're just supposed to submit the song, right? No background or anything?

So I've been on this lightweight writers block where I couldn't write more than one verse for a song.
Then all of sudden I got this melody stuck in my head and I started singing the bridge of my song in my head. Next thing you know, I have an entire song. Are we allowed to share in the thread or ask someone to look at it for us?

You shouldn't post your lyrics to your entry until the deadline has passed, and I wouldn't recommend asking a fellow contestant for advice unless you trust them. If you have someone you can trust, or something who isn't playing (hopefully both), you can ask them to look at your lyrics.

Name: Adam
Shoe Size: 10.5
Songwriting Background: I'm been writing, singing and producing for a long time, maybe since I was 10 or 11 for all of those? As a songwriter I lean more to the musical side so this game takes me out of my comfort zone. I've taken songwriting classes before and I'm very interested in the experimental and jazz-y, stuff that sounds "weird". I'm also an arranger but that skill's a work in progress.
Favorite Songwriters: Fiona Apple and Sufjan Stevens >>>> life. Also Cole Porter is king.
Favorite Song Lyrically: "Take Me To Church" by Hozier, all of "Illinois" by Sufjan Stevens, "Extraordinary Machine" by Fiona Apple, "Cruel" by St. Vincent

Songwriting Background: I always use to write verses / choruses / bridges for years but never wrote a complete song. With the help from a friend, Bahjat, he helped me become a better songwriter and taught me many of his tricks. I went from needing one or two other co-writers to finish a song to being able to write a song by myself in a span of fifteen minutes.
Favorite Songwriters: Hilary Lindsey, Gordie Sampson, Taylor Swift
Favorite Song Lyrically: "Someday When I Stop Loving You" by Carrie Underwood and "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton.

One of my favorite songs ever Lyrically, my favorite Joni song is probably A Case of You.
I met a woman
She had a mouth like yours
She knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds.
And she said, "Go to him, stay with him if you can
but be prepared to bleed."
Oh, but you are in my blood
You're my holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet.
Oh, I could drink a case of you darling
And I would still be on my feet,
I would still be on my feet.
What a masterpiece

I wish my lyrics were good, Bahjat definitely helped me get outside my original comfort zone, and was really one of the first people to believe in me and my songs and I love him for that.
