At first I would roll my eyes when people who said this was her best song. But it has really grown on me. It really is the perfect pop song, always too quick to end.

Lykke Li - Love Me Like I'm Not Made of Stone
"Will you love my scars, so I can heal?"
So, this is gonna sound really stupid but I decided to listen to this because I really liked the title. I knew of Lykke and loved I Follow Rivers, but I never really bothered checking for her for whatever reason. It took this simple, devastating ballad to win me over.
Her vocals during the "even tho it hurts baby, scaaars" part is what heartbreak sounds like.
Best vocal looping in a song since Jessie Ware's underrated modern classic No to Love, no?

FKA twigs - Pendulum
"So lonely trying to be yours, when you're looking for so much more"
A real roller coaster of a song. Swinging between the tense verses to the powerful chorus. I love the complexities of the production and the way twigs changes her voice throughout the song.
"Do I have to write it on your bedroom wall, you fool?"
Alibi
Waiting Game
Beggin For Thread
Fall Over

...and with so many artists trying their luck in alternative R&B, it's difficult to see where Banks' place is. But one thing is for sure, Goddess is a solid debut and I am definitely interested to see how she evolves.
Yes the best songs were already out, yes the album is overlong. But there's still so much to enjoy here: for every Someone New, there's a Fall Over, a Beggin for Thread or an Alibi. .

One track does feel out of place, 'Silent Partner' is reminiscent of their debut and the harsh. biting lyrics seem to allude to her former bandmate.
The album is perfect for summer, from the vibrant cover art to the music. 'Cruel Sexuality' and 'Paradise Is You' are soothing and tropical. The former is an album highlight containing perhaps the most personal lyrics of the album: "Oh you make me happy in my everyday life/ Why must you keep me in your prison at night?". The outro chanted over ethereal backing vocals is certainly my favourite moment of the album.
Yeah I overrated this lol
Great summer album. Better than their debut cuz there's no filler.
"I've got nothing on you / you were right, I had to lose
Cut Your Teeth
Cannibals
I Don't Hate You
Her debut was trash. an Irritating,, melodramatic Kate Bush impersonation. But on this record she completely reinvented herself, with minimalist electropop being the focus of this albums, although there are still folk undertones on tracks such as Maia (still much better than anything off the first one btw) Kyla holds back completely, with songs like Cannibals building up, but never quite boiling over. The album is also pretty good lyrically, which is even more impressive given that Kyla wrote all the lyrics herself..

Azealia Banks - Broke With Expensive Taste
"Icy cola coca, sprite I love the mosta/ I ride roller-coasters! I try all the cultures!"
212
Heavy Metal & Reflective
Ice Princess
Soda
Luxury
I never checked much for Azealia, because of all her drama, but I had to listen to the leak, because well, she FINALLY released!. I'm glad I did, of course. She didn't top her magnum opus 212, but I love that the album tries so many different, unique ideas: The Spanish section in Gimme a Chance; Soda, which juxtaposes pretty heartbreaking lyrics with a quirky beat which sounds like it could've been on an old Super Mario soundtrack, and Nude Beach a-go-go, well that speaks for itself. To use Azealia's own words, from the album's victory lap, Miss Camaraderie; Broke With Expensive Taste is 'an odyssey'
"Hypnotized by the law of motion/ music stops/ and the spell is broken"
I feel like I'll be dragged for saying this because forum homosexuals love Robyn, but this is dancing on my own but BETTER.
This is like the only good song I ever heard on radio 1.
Also the video contains lots of euphemisms for one thing, and it ain't dancing. See if you can guess without looking at the comments..
Take me to Church, King
"If the heavens ever did speak/ she's the last true mouthpiece"
This song was released last year but no one cared then, so I'm including it.
Anyway, what an ANTHEM. Have there been any better top 10's this year? No.
Click me
"Ice on the horizon/ skyline folding in"
The song starts with these loud crashing guitars and the vocalist is kinda shouting but then all of a sudden these ethereal backing vocals kick in, and this graceful, beautifully written chorus starts, it's the complete opposite of the verses. Such ARTPOP.
It's kinda like the post punk West Coast.
My diamonds on Anna Wintour
"I go and take your man, that ***** might miss you"
@MoneyFameSex the story of how I met your man in the summer, stole him by September, and moved into the mansion in December.
The chorus,. The ice metaphors. The instrumental. WOOOO LORDE. Frankly, Azealia can have as many twitter meltdowns as she likes so long as she keeps releasing masterpieces like this. Iggy ain't doing it.
Yes Jessie
"Who's fault is this, that I'm crazy about you?"
Yes, this song isn't the best lyrically, but let's face it, Jessie has never been the best lyricist. Who cares when a song is this euphoric? I've never been completely head over heels in love with someone, but I imagine this is what it feels like.
