ATRL: Is it our job to censor ourselves for young users?

Seriously, stop crying.
This is a music forum. A music forum where members can not only discuss music, but can also discuss unrelated topics, play games, and interact with fellow members socially. **** does not fit into that equation. The site has members from teenagers to adults. Legally, teenagers are not supposed to be viewing ****. The owner WANTS teenagers to be able to come here. Therefore, he has the right to ban Dirty Talk and such things. That's HIS prerogative. Get over it, folks. You'll survive.
If you're really that horny, click the address bar, type in '****', click enter, and leave ATRL for 5 minutes while you do your business.

Question: Don't accounts have to be approved before they're usable? Don't you guys check the usernames first?

Alright, so you think NHB is appropriate for all ages and it helps "ATRL's image?"
What about "This girl ******* all over Rihanna"?
A "respectable" forum like ATRL would never let a thread like "The Illuminati welcomes Beyonce's child into the World" go on to have 83 replies.
"**** drunk white girls say" and "Scream BITCH Scream" are totally suitable for all ages, right?
Honestly, I don't care that much. I'm just showing faults in his argument.

Honestly, I'm not ENTIRELY sure. I want to say that registration is open to all, but Johnald or Athens would be a better person to ask that question. If what you're saying is, indeed, the case, then this problem would be taken care of before they would make a single post anyway.

ATRL has a warning points/ban system, so I really don't know why someone who is so passionate about freedom of speech or censorship on an internet forum would even want to sign up in the first place. There are clearly going to be rules and certain things you can't do or say. And whoever owns the site can change those rules if they want.

Yes it is in accordance with the law.
I'm specifically talking about the Dirty Talk thread, where no over 18 warning is posted. Technically, a parent can file suit against this site.
As for the cussing, etc, well, can't do much about that.

Its is the mods jobs to ensure that the quality is appropiate just like other websites/movies/books etc that have a wide audience make sure that their content, if it doesnt exclude young people, is appropiate. So no, its not your job to censor yourself but the mods have the right to censor you.

There is one, it's in your face when you enter the thread.

If people were really concerned about ATRL's "image" then NHB and SYG would be closed too. I'm sorry but it doesn't make sense. You have two threads where people are given free reign to attack other members and celebrities anyway they can and yet threads about anything sexual is now banned?
What a joke. Violence is worse than sex since it actually hurts someone.

Wonderful! There hadn't been an 18 and over sign since I joined in 09. Guess it musta been recent. Thank goodness.
Will teens still bypass the warning? Of course. But at least ATRL covered its bases.
But ah, it seems Dirty Talk is closed now.

Censor?
The **** avvies?
I would say it's not your job to censor yourselves for the children, but for everyone as a whole. It's a bit trashy.

I don't work at a public school. I'd probably burn out in less than a month

I think that there's a time and place for everything.
Sorry, but I'm going to disagree with Belle on this. There's a difference between censorship that has grounds, and censorship that doesn't. I think in this case, ATRL has the right to disallow overtly sexual images, gifs, posts, etc from the forum. We do not have any warnings that this is an adult forum, we have no way (for now) of implementing an adult sub-forum (and I doubt we ever will), and we have a lot of young users on here.
However, to argue the other side of it, we do allow incredibly foul language on here on a regular basis...

This. ATRL is a music-forum. Not Adam4Adam or Manhunt.

You're right. If they're going to crack down, it has to be on everything, not just bare-torso'd avatars.
At the same time though, I can't @ you all acting like this is the end of ATRL.
Life will go on.

Yes, ATRL is for all ages. I think all of us need to be responsible. If the Online Piracy Act happens, then we really have no choice.
