Wait your turn. They both have those issues. All albums do.

I could play 4 on loop and listen to every song. Rated R has better "hits" Rude Boy/Hard. Difficult but had to vote Ri

Rated R: Firebomb, Russian Roulette, Cold Case Love, The Last Song, Photographs, Stupid in Love, though aren't written by Rihanna in full clearly correlate to her troubled relationship with Chris Brown. The dark imagery metaphorically transcribes one of the darkest points in her life. Rated R was an outcry of pain and about the complications of love.
4: I care, I Was Here, Countdown, Love On Top, Start Over, I Miss You... In my opinion are all about the ups and downs of a relationship. I do think it entails a lot of details about Bey and Jay's marriage. I think they've had a lot of ups and downs, but now, definitely, they are soaring (i.e Countdown & Love On Top).
Anyway, they both are successful. They both were risky, critically acclaimed masterpieces. They are two of the very few albums I can listen to from start to finish (sans RTW and RS101). If we're going off of commercial success I would have to go with Rated R for the success of Rude Boy. Other than that, I think it's stupid to pin an album that's been out for almost 3 years versus one who's been out for about a year.

OMG it's the second best song on the album after RR "Baby I'm A Rockstar...Oh Baby I'm A Rockstar...Big city...bright Lights...sleep all day...dance all night.."

I feel like Rated R is the album Beyonce was TRYING to make, but it didn't come out the way She wanted it too.
Both are good albums nothenless, but it terms of material, I love Rated R a bit more.
No shade, but I really don't see 4 as "risky". It's a great album though, but it's not like Bey strayed far from her sound. RTW, EOT, and Countdown alone all scream Beyonce and no one else could have pulled off those songs like she did. The rest of those songs are r & b ballads, something she has done for years.

In terms of ALBUM success and acclaim, I'll say '4'. They pretty much sold the same, and the '4' era isn't over, so...

But remember, her last was a Pop Album that gained many Pop fans. This new album is strictly R&B, and something a lot of the fans she gained in IA... SF would not enjoy this or aren't used to this.

In terms of Commercial success, RR, in terms of critical acclaim "4" However Rated R was a much more personal album for Rihanna then 4 was for Beyonce. 4 was more of a step forward in the evolution of Bey's music while Rated R was linked to the incident in 2009 and how it affected her.

Beyoncé tried to re-create a Rihanna album? You failed before you even started...

'4' goes against the popular sounds on the music scene right now. That's why it's considered a risk. Name another song that sounds like "Love on Top" on the radio right now?

Maybe this would of been true if 4 sounded somewhat like Rated R, but they sound NOTHING alike
I swear, the Navy has been pretty delusional in this thread today
