She had an awesome day at Pop, but the other formats were meh. I think it was Triple A and AC that brought her down. AC takes forever to add and play new music. She's moving so quickly at Triple A that she was bound to have a slow day or two.

Albums: Adele's "Massacre"

Album sales aren't what they used to be, but evidently no one told Adele's fans. Her sophomore album 21 tops the 3 million mark in U.S. sales this week. Even in the music industry's heyday, a "triple platinum" album was a big deal.

This is the earliest in the year that we've seen a 3-million-seller since 2005, when 50 Cent's The Massacre topped the 3 million mark in the week ending April 17. (Those were the days.)

By comparison, the first album to sell 3 million copies in 2010, Eminem's Recovery, achieved the feat in the week ending Nov. 21.

The first album to sell 3 million copies in 2009, Taylor Swift's Fearless, did it in the week ending Dec. 27.

No albums sold 3 million copies in 2008.

The only album to sell 3 million copies in 2007, Josh Groban's holiday album Noel, hit the mark in the week ending Dec. 23.

The first album to sell 3 million copies in 2006, the first High School Musical soundtrack, scored in the week ending Sept. 3.

21 rebounds from #4 to #2 in its 26th week on The Billboard 200. It's the first album to spend its first 26 weeks in the top five since Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard soundtrack, which spent its first 30 weeks in the top five in 1992-1993.

AC usually adds songs after they peak on other formats for some reason. It's gonna take a while for SLY to blow up there. Unlike Triple A where SLY will peak fastest. I have a feeling it'll be #1 on Triple A for weeks to come.

And pop needs to start supporting more heavily starting right about now. I think the VMA's will help with radio updates because demand for the song will increase. I'm just scared that her sales will peak far earlier than airplay. Hope I'm wrong.

RITD has sold 4,889,959 thus far and is still selling 70k per week. It will probably have a snippet performed before Adele goes into SLY at the VMA's. I'm almost positive it'll be 5x plat in two weeks.

Her album will likely reach 9 million world wide this week too, when mediatraffic posts sales.

Sometimes radio stations play songs before adding them to test them out. It'll be a really good sign if it's added soon. I think the reason Z100 has been so slow to play it is because they're still whoring out RITD. I hear it almost everyday still.

Am I the only one certain that this is going to pass 5 million before the end of the year?

It sold 80 000 this week and passed 3 million.
With SLY taking off and the VMA's this weekend, it has the potential to boost sales back into the 100K territory and if the single really smashing it will hover there throughout the fall. Then in Novemeber it will begin to increase as Christmas sales begin trickling in. December will be gangbusters for it as it will be THE gift for many moms and dads. It has the potential to sell 1 million in December alone. (Grammy nominations will help give it buzz in December too)

Yes, these are high expectations, however the ablum has defied all logic so far... don't count on anything.

If it does indeed pass 5 million by year's end, that would be amazing. Considering she will sweep the Grammy's next year, she should continue to sell through the year next year...
