Ok so I was lurking and saw y'all were raving about "Hush", so I decided to watch it. I'm gonna post what I didn't like first, then what I liked after.
I found it convenient how the protagonist could read lips. I mean, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility, but it seemed more to be there for convenience so they wouldn't have to write a whole movie using nothing but sign language and text. I also found some things to be odd. Mostly the mannerisms of the killer. Speaking of the killer - that first death was anticlimactic, in my opinion. He's just sitting there stabbing her. The way he did it felt more like he was doing... something else because it was just so smooth and casual. Not really threatening or anything.
The small things were definitely outweighed by the positives, though. I like how the antagonist wasn't a complete dumb ass. I found some of her tactics to be quite clever, and it was nice that it seemed to be a battle between two forces of equal, or near equal, ability -- as opposed to one uber powerful, omnipotent and omniscient killer compared to a powerless, defenseless victim just trying to survive. I also liked how they used the "voice" of hers. It was almost like an ally to her, separate from herself. The ending was a twist in a GOOD WAY for once, too. You get to the climax and you're like "Well ****, she dies at the end." but IT WAS SO SATISFYING to see her prevail. I wish more horror movies would do something like that, rather than ****ing the protagonist over at the end.
I could write more about it, but I think I got the gist of what I wanted down. Great movie, overall. Glad I decided to watch it.

Hush was good but WHY are y'all acting like it is the best thing that ever happened since It Follows?

I've seen Hush on Netflix and it was ok. Nothing out of this world. I really hated the dumb bitch during some scenes, but then she kinda redeemed herself.

I feel the same way about It Follows as I do Hush. I found both to be pretty good movies that twisted the typical formula of horror movies, but they both also have their flaws.
I'd say It Follows actually has more glaring flaws, just because most of them lie in unanswered questions.

WOW, The Blackcoat's Daughter was... different. Very VERY good and refreshing. If I had to try and define it I'd say it's something of a combination between We Are Still Here and Confessions. Emma Roberts was amazing but Kiernan Shipka stole the show, her performance was incredibly nuanced and the way she conveyed emotions was stunning. There were only a select few "jump scares", which I hesitate to label given the contexts. The rest of it was completely atmospheric. I wouldn't even call it a slow burner because it doesn't really climax, at least not in the way that such films as The Invitation do. There is a lot of suspense but the story is pretty equally dispersed. It uses exposition in a very similar fashion to Confessions, but in a less intense and twist-y manner.
The story itself was pretty simple but there are still some things I'm confused on. I guess it hasn't been shown many other times yet because it only has one page on the IMDB boards
Overall I think I would give it a 9/10. Perhaps I'm overhyping, but there really isn't much that I could think is wrong with it. The soundtrack is stunning, cinematography is stunning, the production value is top notch. Some may find the pace too slow or boring, but the exposition style keeps the story going while adding new information. The very ending I found to be a bit cliche, but very effective seeing it in a theater. It's definitely not a traditional horror film but I wasn't expecting that.

The Strangers is legit one of the scariest horror movies ever.
Hush is cool but it's not the same.

I just watched "Hush" and I really enjoyed it. However, the bitch got on my nerves because she was so dumb (at most times).
Firstly, when she went to hit the guy with the hammer, why go for his arm and not his face?
Secondly, when she's on the roof and he's climbing up, why would you push him off when you have an arrow, you could stab him with? In the head too...
Thirdly, surely she saw her friend with the rock in his hand, why would she bang on the window when he was about to hit the guy with it?
Lastly, WHY would you try and grab the arrow that's on the floor, when the guy is literally 4 foot away from you, close the damn door and grab another knife from the side...
One thing the bitch did get right was saving the cat, if she had let that cat die, I would have lost it.
Oh wait, another thing, I love how she was losing vision due to loss of blood, about to collapse and die, got choked and was on the brink of death and yet after both of these things, able to stand, walk and sit on her porch with her cat like nothing had happened to her... I don't get that and it bothered me A LOT.
A part from those issues, I enjoyed the movie.

How was she a dumb bitch? She was literally one of the smartest protagonists in a horror movie I've seen recently.
I think you suffer from not understanding that she is going to be murdered. He has made it very clear from the start she is going to die one way or another. She's in a panic and she's trying to disarm him as quickly as she can. They made it clear in the movie when her voice is talking to her that he is stronger than her and will overpower her, which is probably why she went for the arrow. She can do irreparable damage from a distance instead of having to go hand-to-hand with a knife, in which she would probably be dominated and lose.
Some of y'all complain about the stupidest stuff in horror movies. When characters make relatively uneducated choices, it's because they're not thinking about anything else but surviving. If they're being stalked and tormented, they don't typically have time to formulate a fool proof plan.
Yikes, that was a rant. Sorry. Horror movie audiences annoy me the most, which is unfortunate considering it's my favorite genre.

Exactly! I dont get the hate for it I loved it and the build up is actually very exciting and I felt tense as well. The creepiest part of the movie is how that childish voice came about.
I mean he was like what? 30? 40?
