Well no seeing as that was the sound making new waves in the early 70s. While disco (dance as we know it now), became popular it was grounded by rock in the west. Asia had already progressed but Influences of the 60s bands lingered.
People thought Bowie had lost it after killing his former self, reinventing his image once again and confusing his audience with the persona. He too was minimalistic, experimenting with sounds, and it became an innovative change in pop culture influencing others into the following decade, as rock and hip-hop came from underneath, ultimately taking over 80s disco and its underground EDM by the 90s.
