It's a type of analogy used to describe something (an object/situation/etc) by making out it's the same as something else. Starring Role is on the whole a metaphor in itself, as it's speaking as if her position in the relationship is a part in a play:
"IT ALMOST FEELS LIKE A JOKE TO PLAY OUT A PART
WHEN YOU ARE NOT THE STARRING ROLE IN SOMEONE ELSE'S HEART
YOU KNOW I'D RATHER WALK ALONE THAN PLAY A SUPPORTING ROLE
IF I CAN'T GET THE STARRING ROLE"
It's different from a simile as she doesn't use 'like' or 'as' and other such language to clearly compare two things.
