UK is strained enough as it is. We can cope with migrants from other EU countries that come here to work and contribute to society but we can't afford to bring in a huge amount of refugees.

Not as much as the UK and Germany. The ones interested in France come from other regions (the Maghreb and Francophone Africa) where most countries are relatively stable compared to Syria and Iraq.

This whole situation is such a big mess. Merkel giving promises she can't keep and then looking to other countries that they should just do as their told not respecting their background or cultures in any way, shape or form.
This potentionally can create a schism throughout Europe. People calling for a Visegrad union seperately from the rest of the EU with possibly the baltic states as a counter to the western nations. Interesting times.

They need to accept it. If we Europeans went to Muslim countries we'd understand and respect their culture and not do things that weren't acceptable there and we wouldn't complain about their customs. They're not idiots. To be fair in the 70s and 80s there was a wave of Syrians that came to Sweden and they integrated fine.
Christian Orthodox Syrians sought asylum on the grounds of religious persecution. I guess Sweden thought they'd all integrate like that but

I don't think the Visegrad countries would ever truly consider independence from the EU as an option, and as the current situation stands, Russia would be at our doorsteps in no time... It would be Cold War Round 2.

Still the EU is a million times better than the Russians tbh!!!
