I don't expect much longevity. Movies aimed at black and/or urban audiences never have legs. NEVER. They open well and score strong per theater averages and great Cinemascores. And then they collapse. I guess because they fail to expand to other demographics.

I'm not sure how anyone could think it would flop, at least during the first week. Huge promotional campaign. Kevin Hart was cooning it up during the commercial breaks of every NBA telecast promoting this movie.

I'm not sure how it'll hold it, though. As Nicole mentioned up-thread, movies with predominantly black casts typically open well then fall off a cliff. We'll see if this movie is able to attract a wider audience. Doesn't seem too different from the typical rom-com imo, but there might be too much melanin for wider audiences to give it a shot.

That's exactly what I've been trying to tell people. But I guess a movie with a predominantly black cast+ the misconception that black people don't go to the movies=FLOP to them.

just watched Battleship and it was great. the first half was a bit boring and unnecessary but when the action kicked in it was amazing. Rihanna was good too, I liked that it didn't feel like a celebrity cameo at all. def my favorite movie of the year so far, well until The Avengers come out at least

That's not surprising. I liked it and all but it was a bit too similar to Transformers for my taste. My dad even thought it was ''transformers 4'' when he saw the commercial.
