SURVEY RIHSPONSES
"What is your biggest complaint about PH9 thus far?"
RIHSPONSES
Quote:
The attitude and atmosphere of the game itself has been slightly negative and cliquey making me feel disheartened about being in the game.
|
Define cliquey? The attitude could definitely be improved overall though.
Quote:
Judges not being on the same page as each other
|
I don't think we need to be on the same page, or even should be. It's good to have some contrasting opinions as well. As long as we critique the songs with the same criteria (which has been a problem) I don't feel it's a problem.

The bickering between judges and contestants.(primarily one)

Well stop complaining then

I don't answer PM's, wall me instead

Lack of in-between guides
|
I made a lot a few weeks ago, I'll see if Hunter will link them to the OP.
Well you could stop writing in entirely cliches and forced rhymes and then we wouldn't have this problem.
Quote:
I guess when judges contradict each other
|
On one hand, it's completely OK for a judge to drag a line and another to love it. In that sense it's all subjective. The only real problem is when they contradict technicalities, like "this was a forced rhyme" vs "I loved this rhyme!" (which I've seen).
Quote:
several challenges have been somewhat restrictive + uninspiring
|
Not everyone is going to be inspired by every challenge, but every challenge has inspired at least one person. That's how writing is I guess.
Quote:
Scoring/judging being too strict, a bitch works hard and gets a 6 at best, it'd be nice to see some more encouragement score wise. Also try not to reference past work as much, it can feel cliquey for newbies hew ain't got any past work from old seasons.
|
I actually completely disagree with this. Referencing past work and comparing it to current songs is probably the best way to stimulate growth, and contrary to what you may think, I can hardly remember round one songs, so I'm definitely not going to be referencing songs from past seasons. I care more about growth this season than growth throughout the series.
Quote:
There's been a lot of challenges where you have to take on a different style of writing to meet the criteria of a challenge, which doesn't help much with building upon a personal style, in my opinion.
|
I completely agree with this one. I don't think we realized how similar some challenges were until they got posted, which is why we scrapped another "real world" type challenge for the free zone.
"What advice and ideas do you have for the rest of PH9?"
RESPONSES
Quote:
I'm not currently in the game but I think challenges that allow contestants to work on their personal styles and developing their own artistry would be great.
|
I agree, coming up!
Quote:
A chart showing the top 40 songs would be good if continually updated.
|
Done!
Quote:
Ignore us when we rant. It's a game and we hardly take it seriously. Also, a challenge going against the grain of natural songwriting would be nice!
|
I don't think it would stop the complaining.
Quote:
I think the writers should keep their writing style while they should be encouraged to step out of their comfort zone it shouldn't always be a necessity. If course if their entries are repetitives then let us know. Also, we shouldn't be dragged for "simple" lyrics but when we try to bump up the imagery we're dragged for that too. Kinda hard to find a happy medium.
|
Finding the medium is basically the goal of the game though! That's why it's hard. Keep asking questions if you have them. I agree with the first part.
Quote:
Keep giving direction in the challenges and keeping them interesting/different, but also try to leave them as open-ended as possible. So give some direction but not as much restriction.
|
"As open ended as possible" provides no room for growth. Too restrictive does as well, though, which is why we're trying to give you a variety of challenges.
"Do you have any advice, comments or concerns for particular judges?"

I think Jackson nitpicks and swiftie13 does the opposite!
|
Yep!
Quote:
I would also like judging that could be a bit more encouraging or useful in terms of helping us work on our style better. For example, pointing out areas that we need to improve or could consider focusing on rather than just talking about what was good vs. not good. In that sense, I felt both 8th and Temporal did the best job.
|
I agree but I also do this every single round so if you don't think so you aren't taking my advice (which is your decision).
Quote:
Jackson, stop giving into people trying to rile you up.
|
I do it on purpose. Look back at every season I've ever competed in, I love feuding. Just don't take me seriously if you don't want to get riled up.
Quote:
I think overall you all provide good feedback in your own ways but I do think sometimes songs/contestants are shaded unnecessarily. Perhaps keep in mind that some of them have lower confidence thresholds than others.
|
Flop
Quote:
I'm concerned about Jackson's judging since I refuse my songs to be judged by someone who stan for the likes of Katy Perry.
|
I bet you stan Taylor
Quote:
greater concensus would be appreciated. obviously each judge has a unique and valuable perspective, but it can be confusing and unhelpful if judges are offering conflicting perspectives
|
I think it's a great thing to have different judges saying different things, even if they contradict. That's how the real world's going to be. You just have to have the discretion to know what to listen to and what not to. The only problem is when judges judge on different on different criteria and interpret the challenge differently, so we can work on that.

Jackson: Sorry I'm no longer your favorite.

I will always love you.
