"Roar," the smash-hit single nonetheless unworthy of most of her previous smash-hit singles, is the new blueprint: a tepid grocery-store-PA whoosh married to vague lyrical uplift, more pep talk than pep rally, with a wildly unconvincing, unwisely Taylor Swift-esque I-was-the-underdog vibe that doesn't work, even in the past tense, from someone whose last record, 2010's Teenage Dream, spat out five No. 1 singles. (Back catalog-wise, nothing on Prism touches "Teenage Dream," "T.G.I.F.," or — leave me alone — "Hot N' Cold.") Let's just say that being accused of ripping off Sara Bareilles is more alarming than actually ripping off Sara Bareilles.

I would still not say its flopping. Taylor stans expect her to top Itunes with everything never mind the circumstances. Its not gonna sell much less than 'S & S' or 'EO' which had much bigger hype.

Taylor Swift grabs grassers for CMA Awards show

Country pop chanteuse and fashion icon Taylor Swift has announced a special all-star collaboration for her performance during the 2013 Country Music Association Awards Show next month.

During the show, to be televised on ABC November 6 at 8:00 p.m., she will offer a live version of her current hit, Red, with the assistance of Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Sam Bush and Edgar Meyer. The recorded version of the song includes a banjo, prominent in the introduction, and Swift has used a six string banjo herself on stage and in music videos.

Gill and Krauss, of course, have many laurels outside of their bluegrass background, and Bush is actually nominated for the 2013 Musician of the Year award by the CMA. Meyer has a reputation as a virtuoso bassist in both the classical and new acoustic communities.

Presumably, this will be a more acoustic treatment of Red than the album cut, which takes a rocking turn, with Alison and Vince sharing in harmony vocals and Sam on mandolin. No word yet whether or not this quartet will augment Swift’s road band, or serve as the full complement for a pared-down rendition of the song. Percussionist Eric Darken will also be part of her ensemble that night.

While we doubt that Taylor is making a move to the wonderful world of bluegrass, it is much to be hoped that she will continue making the banjo a visible part of her stage show – and maybe even include a little five string picking in future.

I don't see why they had a problem with Sweeter Than Fiction when we got Safe & Sound, Eyes Open AND Both of Us in between Speak Now and Red. Plus they're still releasing singles from Red, at least on WW radio... So She hasn't actually "gone quiet" yet.
This also tells me that there was initially talk of a Red rerelease, but Scotty pulled the plug.


EDIT: UNLESS they're "going quiet" now because She is releasing earlier than usual next year. I can't imagine Her releasing any sooner than Q2, but mayhaps we aren't getting another Q4 release?
