My inspirational trinity
1. No Day But Today - Idina Menzel
Should I stay with him or not after the way he treated me...
This song is about not knowing if you should love or if you should stay away because you have a fear inside of you. In my opinion, this song is very emotional and has the meaning that you have to live and choose what is right now. I always deal with heaviness between choosing some important things so I can relate to this song in this way.
2. Pompeii - Bastille
...I stayed with him, but there we had a fight again...
This song is about believing that nothing has changed in a relationship and believing that things can still change. The melody is amazing and it instantly makes you be braver and end up a fight that started from one side or the other. I love the comparation between the relationship and the Pompeii city which burned, but this song still survived somehow and is one of the biggest attractions in Italy right now.
3. Brave - Sara Bareilles
...I cried again and again, but I was brave. We were in love again.
This song is about not being afraid to say anything and to fight for your ideas, but it is also about embracing your own fears with braveness. Sara described it as a coming out anthem. It is very inspirational for me because I am always afraid to say the things that I think to not hurt the people I love. The music also helps you to feel better.

The first song for my trinity is "The Voice Within" by Christina Aguilera. The song is about how you should trust yourself. It doesn't matter if there's nobody there for you, because you'll always have yourself.
I chose the song because though it's quite sad, it's very uplifting. The entire song is amazing, but the last two minutes just stick out to me. It's pure perfection:

Though it's a bit sad like The Voice Within, I find it a bit different. The Voice Within is about going through a problem, while Close My Eyes is about overcoming that problem.

For the final song of my trinity, I wanted to end it on a happier note. As stated in the beginning of my entry, when you're going through problems, you're eventually going to overcome it and be happy once again and this song represents that. This song's meaning is basically just live your life. Sure, unexpected things happen in life, but you shouldn't dread over one bad thing. You need to move on. Everyday is a new beginning.

I myself have never been an avid rock fan, but this particular song is really inspirational to me because it has a really uplifting production which I consider unusual and not always seen in Rock songs. The lyrics describe the story of a man who lost everything, but finds joy in what he still has and in the beginning of a new day. Who can't relate to that? We can all lose something or someone, but there's always the comforting fact that there will be a new beautiful day to come, where we can continue to do something for ourselves and for those around us. That's really why I love this song and find it extremely motivational and empowering.

There are just those songs that connect with you when you listen to them for the first time. For me, this is one of those songs. I absolutely love it and consider it extremely inspiring. I personally find inspiration in really upbeat dance-productions like this one. Whenever I'm in a bad mood, I can find comfort in a song like this one simply because the production creates a really euphoric feeling. Not to mention, the lyrics are also just as inspirational: ''You and I / Shinning lights to what we are / Look at the sky / And I am never far / I can be right there next to you / No matter where in the world you are / I got you right here next to me / Forever connected through the stars.'' So, as you can see, the song is basically just about being with someone you love, together with them forever, like the stars in the sky.

I find this song very inspirational because of the strong and somewhat aggressive approach that the song has. Sometimes to be or feel inspired, there needs to be a feeling of passion or aggression inside you, and I think this song creates that feeling really well. She's allowing someone to "rain" on her [metaphorically speaking, of course] so that it makes her stronger and fuels a spark in her than allows her to move on her with her life. Although Cheryl Cole will never be considered a vocal powerhouse or anything of that nature, I really found her vocal delivery in the song very well executed and convincing. Especially since this song rings so true to her life after her divorce from English footballer Ashley Cole, who cheated on her with over 5 women. In general, I really consider it a very inspiring and even uplifting track that I really enjoy.

When your down and blue, feeling miserable and worthless, you need some songs that will pick you up and make you feel like your important again. The trinity that I've put together is something that I feel is a mix between inspiration & reality as well, because when you want to give some one hope it needs to be genuine and real yet filling them with self esteem.
INSPIRATION No. 1 Hercules by SARA BAREILLES
Meant to Be a Warrior
I started off the trinity with Sara Bareilles' Hercules. The song is a great way to describe how sometimes you need a hero or you can be the hero to rescue the day and be the savior from all the negativity & troubles surrounding you. In the verses she expresses her agony and problems from her life and in the chorus she begins to believe that she can be the hero. She can be the Hercules.

I Was Never Afraid
We continue this trinity with a more up-tempo song. I'm Not Your Hero is inarguably the best song on Heartthrob and it's realistic inspirational mood is one of main reasons I believe it is. In this song, they sing about how if you don't want to be the hero, you don't have to. You can be inspirational to yourself and fight the demons chasing after you without having to become a glorified hero.
INSPIRATION No. 3 Weirdo by SKYLAR GREY
I Turn Heads Wherever I Go
The term "Weirdo" has always been considered a negative word to say to someone in the means of insulting them. But Skylar is telling us through this song that it's okay to be a weirdo and you should be proud of it! You don't have to put up fake smiles for others, erase the people that don't make you feel comfortable away from your life because they aren't worth it. Even if people call you a weirdo or a zero, be proud of that because that means your authentic and you different from everybody else!
LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS
For some reason, it was patriotism that came to mind at first when I read about the theme. The Declaration of Independence says that we have three unalienable rights and naturally I have chosen 3 anthems that represent these rights, all while inspiring people to live them out when they feel they have been stripped of them.
LIFE: A woman who has done more inspirational anthems than probably anyone out there, Cher's latest hit "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" is about getting back up again after life kicks you in the ass. Delivering a powerful vocal performance, Cher not only uplifts the listener by sharing her pain at her lowest but also shares how she picked herself up and came back stronger. It's an anthem that we can all relate to and look to when life gets the best of us.
LIBERTY: Lady Gaga gives us an anthem on hair, which metaphorically represents being a wild, rebellious child who just wants to be free. Hair is about liberation and as immature as the lyrics may be, it inspires one to let loose and show your true colors, not giving a single damn what anyone else thinks. Going back to my teenage years, I remember being afraid to be myself and even though I wish I had this song to inspire me earlier on, I eventually grew comfortable with myself and I can only hope "Hair" helps others let their hair down.
PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS: Our last unalienable right is the pursuit of happiness and nothing screams that more than "shine bright like a diamond". An unlikely empowerment anthem, Diamonds represents how surreal and beautiful love is but I interpret the song as someone searching for happiness. I imagine Rihanna is singing to me, inspiring me to find the beauty in myself so that I can live life to the fullest.

I've grown up listening to what my parents want me to do. Wanting me to graduate from school & go to University. I did that, but after a year of being in Uni, I thought to myself, this is not what I want to be doing. I need to stop living in my parents shadow and take charge of my life, and begin to tell the story that I want to be telling, not what they want to be telling. And that's exactly what I am currently doing.
For me personally, the meaning of this song is that no matter how good of a person you may think you are, you can always make that little improvement to make the world a better place for you and others around you. It's about finding the wrong things in yourself and making them right.
I’ve learned that change must begin from within. I've got to look in that mirror and be happy with who I am. If we’re able to truly be happy with ourselves then we can impact the lives around us because we will be at our fullest. This song inspires me to believe in the world and the change that it is capable of attaining.

There are times in my life when I worry, am I doing the right thing, did I make the right choices. I let people get inside of my head and I doubt myself, I lay awake at night with worry, unable to sleep, unable to enjoy myself. Everybody wants me to conform, why do you dress this way, why are you not settling down, move back home get a job and be normal. We start to look outside ourselves for acceptance and approval. Why must we care what other people think, they want us to live our lives to their standards but that's not being true to ourselves. I've been pushed and pulled too many times. I've learnt from this not to change myself, I live to make myself happy and create my own story.

My approach to this round was to show three different things that people like to draw inspiration from,
three values that are universal to every culture and that I think everyone can relate to at least one of them.
With a sweet melody and sing along character,
this song talks about being inspired by love and loving
each other and using that positive energy to change the world,
rather than being greedy and selfish, only caring about ourselves.

This upbeat song always puts a smile on my face and
makes me start dancing and clapping my hands to the music automatically.
The message is simple, don't be afraid to take chances and enjoy life because
you only have one. Also, the "clap your hands" part to me speaks about
finding inspiration in music.

I'm ending my trinity on a bit of a heavier note, with a song that
talks about the inspiration you can get from religion. The lyrics are
basically a conversation between someone and God, which is nicely portrayed
by the two vocal styles used (screaming vs clean singing), reflecting the reli-
gious belief that there is always hope because God understands and will always help you.

This is not only the first song I purchased on iTunes, but it's also one of the first inspirational songs I ever really enjoyed. Obviously when I was like 10 when, I bought this I didn't understand the meaning behind it. But under the beautiful instrumental is an even more beautiful message meant to inspire people to live life to the fullest, at every stage.

Continuing my childhood throwback inspirational trend, naturally comes Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway. This song encourages people to overcome whatever poor situation that their in, and realize that you're worth something. I also felt like the change from a AC Hit to a Pop Rock soon-to-be classic was a nice way to transition into my third song choice...

Sure, it's extremely cheesy. But this is the first song I fell in love with, and one of the first that got me into music. So not only does it have an inspirational theme, it also acted as an inspiration to me. It has a nice message and is one of the first "be who you are" anthems that I can remember. It's a cute song, and it's uptempo feel creates a 3rd dimension to my "Inspirational" trinity.

This trinity of songs aren't just your typical "uplifting" songs. These three songs were the most instrumental tracks in teaching me about self-acceptance, personal motivation, and the fact that I can change the world if I just speak my mind. This trinity of songs showed me that regardless of other people's opinions and beliefs, I can truly make a difference with just a positive mindset and the ability to be outspoken.

Martina McBride's country hit "Anyway" continues the theme that we shouldn't let the world get us down; instead, we should keep trying even when we fail. I don't need to divulge the ins and outs of such a personal situation, but let it suffice to say that I was in the mood for some inspirational songs following such a debilitating episode. This is the track that helped the most. Lush, futuristic, electronic, and inviting, Pure Shores is a dream pop song about, well, paradise. A place to call one's own. Somewhere you've been struggling to get to for a really long time. A frame of mind that's been more elusive than the perfect pair of jeans. A solution you've been searching for that just won't stop evading you. Whatever. It's about finally getting to that point and giving yourself permission to really reap the rewards because you've developed the self-realization on your journey to know that you've earned them. Simply put, it reminds me I'm alive.
