One underperforming album does not make Avril less iconic than Rihanna.
That album has serious music (sans What The Hell) where Rihanna's album close to being deep is Rated R, which suck IMO. Rude Boy?
They both were kinda the same since Umbrella and Girlfriend both smashed in 2007 (Avril smashed too back in 2004 and earlier) but then Rihanna took It to another level with Take a Bow,Disturbia, Rude boy, and Loud. But Avril kinda stayed the same..... I still like Avril Though!!!
