Considering the oil we had from North Dakota at the time, we did not need to go into Libya for oil. In fact, we barely got any and Gaddafi wasn't nationalizing his oil anyway. Libya could have and should have been dealt with better and we should have militarized the region until it's stable again. We got into Iraq for oil, and we ended up paying even more for it than we would have otherwise. That was already a failed strategy.

Nevertheless, even less Libyans died there than in Egypt where people themselves deposed their leader with no western help. Compare that to the mess that happened in Syria. If a monarchy like Morocco can become a democracy and have the king secede most of his powers to the parliament and thus have a totally peaceful Arab Spring, then there was no reason Gaddafi couldn't do the same.

Also, it was France that wanted Gaddafi out first, not America. We just supported our NATO allies. But ofc we take all of the blame as we always have while the UK and France walk free.

He was looking to nationalize his oil. How did ISIS find their way into Libya in the first place? That is not an accident my friend. They are selling that oil to Europe bc Libya is a convenient pathway (very close by to transport) so that Euro doesn't have to use Russia. It's all about squeezing Russia and their economy. Putin even called this out publicly.

France has a big hand in alot of this which is why it is kinda some sort of twisted karma/blowback in a way that they got ISIS attacks multiple times. I am sure Mr. Putin was secretly kii'ing each time France got sadly attacked

You should read the Atlantic piece about Obama's doctrine. Very long and informative read but I think you would like it. It really sheds light on the tension btwn. Hillary and Obama when they were working together. They are not great friends.

Well yeah France gets its oil from Libya but to say we invaded to get oil is dishonest. France had its self-serving reasons behind getting Gaddafi out but America and the UK didn't get a cent out of it. As for ISIS, they find a pathway to any Muslim majority country with the slightest bit of unrest. It's easy to get them out of Libya though.

I think Obama's anti-military attitude in his first term is what screwed the world over. From getting the troops out of Iraq and not trying to renegotiate GWB's agreement, to deposing Gaddafi and then becoming completely separated from Libya following the Benghazi attacks, he basically gave ISIS all of the power and territory it needed. That sort of attitude is just as dangerous as the Bush era neocon one. There should be a middle ground for US foreign policy to truly be successful.

As for Putin, he's evil and I'm glad his economy was crippled a bit by the US's sanctions. But now he's gonna become more powerful than ever and start some unprecedented imperialistic approaches to Russian foreign policy.

Well, we have completely opposite viewpoints then. I think O believed too much in military intervention and was too much like Bush and that is what caused all this mess. Libya was absolutely about oil (not for us, but our allies), and so is Syria. Google Syria pipeline plans.

As for Mr. Putin, he is evil but so is the U.S. govt.
