BOTH of them are iconic artists because they make sure they put their vision on their albums. Avril fought as long as she had to to get Goodbye Lullaby released, and then she left all of the ****tards at RCA to go to Epic Records. That shows initiative.
Rihanna also took control of her career starting with Disturbia, and everything she has released since then has been quite iconic and epic.
Avril though is my choice for who is more iconic, because was iconic from the start of her career. Rihanan became iconic with the GGGB era, but especially because of Umbrella and Disturbia.
