It's not just management/ label though . It's her too. I don't think she does enough to help her career.

I love her to death but I have to put most of the fault on her. She has a strong hand in picking the singles & the sound of the album. (Especially being with HWR, who give their artists huge control over their era's)

When an artist tries to make "hits", it's usually really forced sounding which I feel is the case with a lot of the tracks on DEMI. She should be making music she believes in & can emotionally connect with, not jumping for chart toppers. A lot of the songs on the album sound dated & MITUSA is like Heart Attack's sibling in terms of sound and style. This just wasn't the right choice & doesn't capture anyone's attention.

I personally believe that this should have been the lead single.

But now all they can do is to move on. Without The Love, Really Don't Care, Two Pieces, or Nightingale would do the trick. Neon Lights is generic and it does not represents her as an artist well.

I think the problem was the timing. And Demi definitely should have done a radio tour and more promo but she is not the one in control of booking that. She needs a new team who will do that for her. And as far as her having a lot of creative control, i'm not sure about that but no one here works for HWR so I guess we'll never know

I think the main problem here with this single and the album underperforming is because she needs to stop citing Kelly Clarkson as a main influence.

If she really wants to do well, I think In Case, Nightingale, or Two Pieces should be singles. The uptempos on this album aren't really edgy enough to do well on their own.

It's true that none of us work for them but It's safe to assume that they give Demi the same amount of control that Selena & Zendaya have both talked about on talk shows & interviews. Demi has voiced her approval & liking for HWR many times & her getting creative control is probably the biggest selling point of staying with them.

I do agree with your thoughts on timing though. HA's longevity on radio & Demi getting her tonsils removed really through this single off. I don't think it's the only reason for the underperformance but it is one of them.
