I tried to do some cute statistical analysis of the sales of major female artists but the industry has tanked majorly and Utata's First Love threw an outlier in there, so I couldn't make cute graphs and now I'm sad.

Even without first love, Namie and Ayu and Distance all make it hard to get a good graphical representation since sales now are so tragic.

Ayu selling more than 100 times at her peak what she's selling now.

I'm not sure about it, because iirc they stopped counting EVERYTHING that goes outside of Japan nowadays. I remember people talking about it on ayumi hamasaki sekai, but I could be wrong.

oh, and just now I'm seeing how GACKT likes the name Ayumi.

Newt, I just searched and talked to someone on AHS and there's not a shop where Oricon counts copies shipped overseas. And here's CDJapan saying that:
