honestly not liking the new rules, all of this moderation doesn't really make this place sound very fun
I disagree. There's clearly a high ratio of members who consistently troll as opposed to following the rules and guidelines. Strict moderation is highly required in order for members not to run a complete mock.

accelgors, you don't even use Blogs much at all. Most of your activity is in Random Thoughts. The only significant policy change was standardizing Blogs to the rest of the forum; almost everything else was clarification rather than making anything more strict.
Moderation is necessary to keep a site as large as this functioning properly. Do you enjoy the idea of being attacked by another user? Of seeing homophobic or racist comments? Of having your privacy invaded, or of the site being shut down due to file sharing and file sharing requests?
None of our policies differ significantly from the norm among properly functioning large forums (and I'll note we're still the most active pop music forum on the net). I don't think the scope of moderation is too far-reaching but rather it's almost perfect with the latest update to reestablish control and proper operation of Blogs. When you have such widespread abuse of such a section, it becomes necessary to place it in check - if it can be used to circumvent most rules anyway, what is the point of those rules if that section is not overseen properly?
The whole Staff team deliberated for a great deal of time on the new policies updates, and we took into account everything that we thought was necessary. We didn't just lightly decide last night to do this - a lot of thought was put into this, with the concerns of our members coming first and foremost.
