I genuinely do not think that is the case. Judas being the second single was the problem. Had she released The Edge of Glory as the follow up single, she'd have been fine. Having 9 months from announcement to release was the problem in drawing things out, not the 3 month single to album gap.
Gaga is in the position of having an extremely active and numerous fanbase. The benefit of that is that we give her an excellent shot of a #1 debut single and the downside of that is we give incredibly front loaded album sales.
The longevity of the BTW campaign was a big issue and no doubt they will be addressing that. If they're smart, they will exploit her fanbase by milking our #1 debut power twice before fan support drops post-album, and the success of the lead singles will snowball into radio/GP supporting the following singles to counterbalance. That in turn will hopefully sustain album sales beyond debut because the GP will be convinced with each subsequent hit single that it's a good album.
Just think: if the 1st single is a big hit as you'd expect, and then she effectively repeats BTW by debuting the song and following it with a Grammy performance...we could be talking two MASSIVE hits. Add to that the potential success of PARTYNAUSEOUS, we could be talking the era beginning with 3 hit singles before the album even drops. That is what they need right now, they need to convince GP that Gaga is worth investing in again.
