The Boy was meh, as expected but I pretty much see any horror that comes out. It's worth more of a Netflix (& chill) choice instead of paying.

The final act was predictably ridiculous. It actually could have been saved if it wasn't presented in such a rushed and anticlimactic way. I would have been happier pissed off at a supernatural twist (i.e. Annabelle) than what it offers.

For anyone interested in the full turnout:

Greta accepts the job, the old people leave (but act strange - old lady whispers I'm sorry. Turns out they weren't going to return and commit suicide by putting heavy rocks in their pockets and drowning themselves. Cheap jump scares here, fake dream sequences there blah blah. Greta is running from an abusive boyfriend, who shows up in the last 20 minutes (thanks to her best friend's 10-year old son telling him the address she's at... In the Uk). He overacts his intimidating / abusive nature, telling her she's leaving with him the next day. She has Brahms (the doll) scare him by using dead rat blood, painting the words 'get out' while he's sleep. He of course doesn't believe the doll did it and begins to threaten her and Brahms. Malcolm (grocery man who's just in the movie to be a love interest / weak comic relief) shows up to defend her after sleeping outside in case something happened.

Boyfriend smashes Brahm's head on a chair, shattering it of course (porcelain). House starts to rumble and shake.

Human Brahm breaks through a mirror, stabs boyfriend in the neck dead. Chases Greta and Malcolm through the house and all the secret passageways in the walls (explaining how he's moved the dolls and such when no one's looking). They reach where he's been living underground, he knocks Malcolm unconscious while Greta escapes.

She of course returns to save Malcolm. Treats human Brahm's like the doll (following its rules) to trick him and puts him bed. He wants his kiss of course, but she stabs him as he's getting frisky. He attacks her, she pushes the knife deeper and he collapses. She goes to wake Malcolm and they drive off.

Final shot is human Brahm's being not actually dead and he puts the final piece of the doll's head back together with a meant to be menacing shot of the doll (Chucky does the stitched look better). Cue straight to DVD sequel.

As for the parents. They only claimed their son died in a house fire because he killed the little girl mentioned in the trailer, after police wanted to question him. They've hidden him for 20 years. So he's like 30 or whatever. Wears doll mask for whatever reason. Dirty, bearded etc.

Gonna watch the Martyrs remake tonight. Surprisingly, I'm hearing more mixed things than just negative reviews. I hope I like it.

I really liked it. It was really funny to me.. like I literally almost pissed myself at one part but it's also very creepy. I'd recommend it definitely. Shyamalan kinda redeemed himself with me.

I guess I just don't usually agree with critics with regards to horror films. I also disliked Crimson Peak, It Follows, The Ring, Strangers, Carrie, and The Woman In Black and I thought Cabin In The Woods was a joke.

I'm really excited to see Goodnight Mommy though.

Also I saw We Are What We Are a while ago and LOVED it.

Just finished the Martyrs remake. As someone who loved the original and went into the remake expecting to hate it I thought it was so good. I loved the small changes they added to the story and the ending was great. You could really tell how much they American-ized it though since the gore was minimal and the ending was happier than the ending in the original. I'd give it a strong 8/10.

Also on the visit, it was really good for the most part, clichè af ending that ruined it for me but other than that it was good

Ugh I just watched Unhallowed Ground (only because it starred Poppy Drayton) and it was horrific. One of the worst "twists" I've ever seen.

Basically six British cadets/teenagers spend the night in an abandoned school that's haunted by demons, and at the end it turns out that two of the kids are in league with the demons to RELEASE THE BUBONIC PLAGUE because they didn't get into the universities they wanted

I watched Cloverfield last night and it was actually pretty good.

They may have actually escaped had the dumb brother just left his girlfriend behind. And even then, she took a metal pole through the chest/heart... how was she still up and running???

I'm so disappointed in the Matyrs remake. I knew they wouldn't do it justice when they said it was made in the US. Well at least we have the original. The original made me walk away devastated. This I was just meh through the whole thing. If I had never seen the first, maybe I would have liked this.

What this lacked for me was the systematic way they broke her. Plus I'm a fatalist so this ending was predictable and not unexpected like the original. It's like I've seen this movie a hundred times just different characters. The original was a masterpiece. It's like remaking the Exorcist with a limited amt of money and time. Just can't be done.
