What do you think "sales experts" (not that the article mentions any names, it could be talking about Katy's cat for all we know) are basing their "predictions" on right now, almost a month before the album comes out? Nothing solid, that's for sure.

That's why I said worst case scenario.

Personally, I can't see 700k people buying her album first week (doesn't she appeal to the pirates/young adults), but if they believe she could sell that much and surpass Em's first week sales, then her numbers might be strong even if it doesn't open up with 700k. Based on that, I can't see Katy flopping first week.

But one thing's for sure, if Katy sells that, our favs can slit their wrists.

700k sounds like wishful thinking, not a reasonable or accurate prediction unless maybe they discount the album a lot on iTunes. If Katy debuts with that much, I'll really be skeptical about who bought most of those copies though.

Well she was a new artist then...of course her sales aren't going to be that stellar.

Of course she doesn't have as big of a fanbase as Taylor or Bey. However, she is quickly winning over casual listeners with her mainstream hits.

Katy's not household yet, and she doesn't have a big fanbase. While it may be bad in the end to doubt her with these hits, it's not like this same situation hasn't happened where a song is a massive seller and people mistake that for a huge artist.

Casual listeners don't necessarily translate into album buyers or stans.

And my point in mentioning Taylor and Bey is that they couldn't even debut with 700k in November with huge hit singles so what makes anyone think Katy will debut with that in August?

Winning over Casual listeners is NOTHING for Album sales. Casual Listeners buy SINGLES not Albums and That is what I think will end up happening here but releasing in a season without Gaga might play to her Advantage. .
