And re: Madonna - 80s Madonna was quick little singles (yes, even LAP), 90s Madonna was technically her best (Thief of Hearts, Sky Fits Heaven, In This Life, Bedtime Story (written by Björk!!), etc) but a bit dull, messy 21st Century Madonna is my favourite incarnation tbh

I feel like ROL has a similar feel/atmosphere but they're quite different? Less strings, more straightforward with its bops, more spiritual, less good. Like maybe it was an influence but I don't feel like she ripped it off at all.
