Britney Spears demands random drug tests for crew on Circus tour
Quote:
BRITNEY Spears is demanding her 225-strong support crew - including local production staff and support acts - be given random drug and alcohol tests while in Australia.
In a bid to keep her tour clean, Spears has ordered her tour party obey the terms of a confidential contract outlawing alcohol and drugs on her sell-out tour, Circus.
The ban extends to 150 local staff working on the tour, the Sunday Herald Sun reports.
"Britney's rule is clear - zero tolerance," a well-placed concert industry source said.
"No drink. No drugs. If you do not comply, you do not tour with Britney."
Spears will perform in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth in November.
The restrictions are designed to keep alcohol and drugs away from Spears, who suffered a substance-fuelled meltdown two years ago.
Spears must stay clean to avoid child custody issues.
Sons Sean Preston, 4, and Jayden James, 3, will travel to Australia with Spears.
Her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, will also be in the tour entourage.
Spears carried out drink and drug testing before and during her US tour and before her European dates.
"She will demand the same rules here," the source said. "You are not allowed to drink and, obviously, there are no drugs."
The alcohol ban extends to drinking beer or wine with a meal, even on days off.

Madonna, U2 and AC/DC are among the finalists for the 2009 Billboard Touring Awards, which will be handed out at a special reception in New York on Nov. 5. The awards are based on global box office numbers reported to Billboard Boxscore from Oct. 1, 2008, through Sept. 30, 2009.
The finalists for the Top Tour and Top Draw awards, which acknowledge the top grossing and ticket selling tours, respectively, are the same three global treks: U2's 360 tour, Madonna's Sticky & Sweet tour, and AC/DC's Black Ice tour.
The Top Package award goes to the top-grossing tour with three or more artists on the bill. Finalists include five-time winner Kenny Chesney for his Sun City Carnival tour with Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum, Sugarland and Montgomery Gentry on the bill; the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009 with Jordin Sparks, Honor Society and Wonder Girls; and Nickelback for their Dark Horse tour, with Hinder, Papa Roach, and Saving Abel on board.
The Breakthrough Award goes to the top-grossing artist in their first decade as a national headlining act. Four artists enjoyed remarkable touring breakthroughs this year: Lil Wayne, Taylor Swift, Kings Of Leon, and Il Divo. Dane Cook, Robin Williams, and French & Saunders are finalists for the Top Comedy Tour.
Finalists for the Top Boxscore award, which goes to the top-grossing single engagement for the time period, are U2 at Croke Park in Dublin, U2 at Stade de France in Paris, and the Oxegen fest at Punchestown Racecourse, Naas, Ireland.
Global concert mega-promoters Live Nation and AEG Live are joined by Sao Paulo promoter Time 4 Fun (T4F) as finalists for the Top Promoter award. T4F is also a finalist, with MCD and Australian promoter Michael Coppel Presents, in the international independent promoter division.
Four-time winner Jam Productions in Chicago, 2007 winner C3 Presents in Austin, and Madison, Wis.-based Frank Productions are the finalists for Top Independent Promoter, U.S.
Other than the Boxscore-related awards, the Billboard Touring Awards also includes the Concert Marketing & Promotion Award and the Eventful Fans' Choice Award, both of which are determined by online voting. Additionally, Ozzy Osbourne will be named 2009 Legend Of Live, and Warped founder Kevin Lyman will receive the Humanitarian Award.
Here is the complete list of finalists for the 2009 Billboard Touring Awards:
TOP TOUR
AC/DC, Black Ice tour
Madonna, Sticky & Sweet
U2 360

One particular comment from the readers:
"This is getting funny... Once again Billboard manages to totally overlook Britney Spears, who has had one of the biggest Tour Success of 2009. Congrats."

Again! What else is NEW. *sigh*

Well those nominations were votable. And she obviously didn't top AC/DC, Madonna, and U2 numbers. She'll get her mention on the Billboard Awards or when they give out those particular notices.

Sticky & Sweet Tour started late August 2008, and the award tracks from October 1, 2008 to September 30, 2009. So it only missed like 1 month of numbers.
Brit still holds the #1 in North America however.

^ Yeah, it's ok. The actual numbers are what matter anyway.
Btw, any news on when Britney is going to Australia? I'm wondering if there are going to be any rehearsals - maybe for a '3' performance?

The numbers are not being released until tomorrow's morning. We're lucky enough someone shares with us their info, let's just be patient.
AND it will probably be posted on the '3' thread, at the Music forum anyway.

The Clarín is not a magazine, it's a very famous newspaper in Argentina.
