Released last year, “Don’t Forget” made its debut at No. 2 on the Billboard album chart. “It was like, O.K., you’ve done it,” Ms. Lovato recalled. “You’re no longer just succeeding because you’re in a movie with the Jonas Brothers. These people bought your music for you.”
And in the world of Disney music, they were taking a leap. Ms. Lovato “has such a wide range,” said Michael G. Riley, general manager of Radio Disney. “She’s more on the rock edge of pop, and that adds to the landscape of Radio Disney.”
On “Sonny With a Chance,” which had its premiere in February, Ms. Lovato plays a young actress plucked from Wisconsin obscurity to join a children’s sketch show in Hollywood. Mr. Marsh likens Ms. Lovato’s character, full of puckish charm, to Mary Tyler Moore. She’s exceedingly comfortable being the butt of the joke, with a geniality that recalls Anne Hathaway and a quirk that recalls Drew Barrymore.
But while Ms. Lovato and her peers have millions of fans aged roughly 6 to 11 willing to watch their shows, buy their CDs and go to their concerts, their success is not measured well by traditional metrics. No solo single of Ms. Lovato’s has cracked Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 chart.
“Top 40 programmers are a little hesitant to play some of the younger Disney acts,” said Gary Trust, Billboard’s chart manager. “They may not appeal to older teens and people in their 20s. Miley and the Jonas Brothers are the only ones who have broken through.”
Are you guys here for Demi's acting? I mean yeah she's done mainly Disney roles... but if she'd go back to acting soon, will you be excited?
I'd be here for her doing a movie here and there, and guest-starring on some cool shows but I need her to focus on music and make a name for herself in the music world then venture out into other things.
But it's ultimately up to her, that's just how I'd like her to go on with her career.
Um no. I'm not saying 3 people bought Demi's album so it increased. I'm saying 3 people could buy an album on iTunes and it'll increase a few spots. I didn't say Unbroken specifically.
I can't explain exactly, but it says that she is addicted to drugs and says about the documentary.. they are saying that she still cuts herself and that she still has eating disorders.. they used sarcasm... it's SO fake.
