Am I the only one here for a Sia penned single? "Fire Meets Gasoline" and "Big Girls Cry" both could've easily been pulled off by Miley. Though I'd prefer something with a little bit more grit if they were actually to work together.

It's always funny to me how people expect hit singles to immediately translate into massive album sales. Oh, she's slowly approaching 2m copies, but... she had two hit singles so that somehow translates into she underperformed since she's not going 3, 4x platinum!
Time and time again people have hit singles and their albums perform dismally - yet that didn't happen to Miley. Massive singles =/= massive albums. She managed to be successful in both selling her singles and selling her album (selling nearly 6x as many records as she did in her previous era).
A 204% increase in album sales in the USA, from going tin foil to platinum, is not an under-performance.

I want a vulnerable ballad a la You Lost Me by X. She can pull those off exceptionally well.

Pretty sure Bangerz has sold well over 2m, Mediatraffic is just screwing her over to make other pop girls look better.
But I agree completely, she did really well in all categories. Her album is Platinum (which is impressive considering how low album sales are and how she hasn't promoted since January). She had two smash hits and a moderate hit, won several awards including Video Of The Year, broke several records, and is currently on a successful world tour.
Overall the Bangerz era was massive and easily one of the biggest eras of the 2010s so far. I'm really proud of her.

The thing that really gets me is the, "with all that media attention and she couldn't scan ___?" as if people posting memes about her ass and calling her a **** are gonna rush out and buy the album. I mean but w/e.

Right? As if hate and being laughed at translates into album sales.

She really made it happen during the Bangerz era. The second half didn't go quite as we all imagined it would, but overall it was a great and very successful era.

But the GP wore her VMA outfit as Halloween costumes, shouldn't her album be 6x platinum by now?

It's only supposed to translate into album sales when it's someone you dislike
They know deep down all that backlash wasn't going to make people run out and buy Bangerz
This era was crazy successful, more successful than all of us including Miley thought it would be. She went from a 350k selling album in the US to a platinum album. She went from a barely platinum single to two 3x platinum singles and a platinum one

Not the video of the year award winner slaying!
I remember at the beginning of the year last year when everyone kept saying she would flop with this era! I bet those people are ashamed of themselves now!
Anyway, about to watch ha performance on Chelsea Lately and get slayed some more!
Bye gurls!

Plus she's also working with Mike Will, but somehow I feel like he may get scrapped or only get like a track or two in the end
Yea her and Dr. Luke fought, but I'm pretty sure they're good now since they hung out during the Clive Davis party earlier this year

The way things are going, I don't see her next album being anything like Bangerz. She seems to be moving away from the hip-hop edge. It'll be interesting to see what she does.

Madonna was channeling Marilyn in that picture too. In fact, it literally says "Madonna like Marilyn" on her cover.

I'd love to see Miley do a heavily choreographed era full of Beyonce-like choreography. Throw some big ballads in there and some big bops and we're good to go. I also would like to see an era similar to "In The Zone". Just think of how many more albums will come out of Miley's career! There's so much potential!

Hmm, I wonder how that would look! It'd be cute if she did a throwback video to the early 2000's with a choreography focused video (serving a Britney tea). It'd only work if she actually served it up 100%, nothing messy like Ariana's Problem choreography. It'd be so different to see her doing fully choreographed routines as opposed to her usual fluid, loose, fun choreography.

I'm trying to compile a list of celebrity praise/support for Miley from the Bangerz era only. So if you can think of any please direct me to them! People like to act as if she's got no respect within the industry when she's probably one of the most adored celebs among her peers.
+
"I’ve been in the business a long time, let me tell you what worked at the VMAs. Miley Cyrus went on and performed like she did. And the whole purpose of VMAs when you got all these big artists competing against each other for attention is to flatten the opposition. She flattened the opposition. Nobody talked about anybody else [after the VMAs] except Miley. She has two records in the top ten, the number one single.” - Elton John
"I happen to really like Miley. I happen to think that she - unlike some of the other rock and roll 'slash' actresses that we are really worried about - has the possibility and the ability to be a great actress, a great singer and probably a great songwriter and go on until she's my age." - Stevie Nicks
"She's pushing the envelope, being an artist. She's talented, and didn't commit a felony. Truthfully she was ****ing brilliant because we're all still talking about it." - Cher
"Hannah Montana got tired of being Hannah Montana. Hannah Montana gave herself for so many years and one day, she said, ‘I am fed up with the life that I had to be. I’m going to show you my real skin.’ There’s nothing evil about that. It’s expression." - Celine Dion
""I remember that age when I was just transferring into my career and doing more controversial things and the energy that you feel, all this chaos going on, and she is on fire right now, she's just a ball full of energy. I think anytime you do a performance that is that memorable, you're going to have criticism. I think she's doing her thing. She's being herself, so I give props to her." - Britney Spears
"(Perry) bores me. (Miley) was at least kind of punk rock, you know? It was openly sexual... like dark and hillbilly and (f--ked) up." - Courtney Love
"She's got an incredible voice. I heard her sing ‘Wrecking Ball' before that single came out and I tweeted about it a long time ago before it even came out and I was just so excited about it for her. She's got a set of pipes that are incredible." - Katy Perry
"It's the VMAs – what did you guys expect? I like Miley. I like her a lot. I think she's really smart, and I think she's really talented. I think she's young, she's letting everybody know she's growing up. It's the VMAs, let her do her thing. You know, Madonna. Wedding suit. Humping the stage. Britney. Striptease. This is not an uncommon thing." - Justin Timberlake
"I love that new Miley [Cyrus] song…That and ‘Royals’ are really close on iTunes. It’s just so good, man.” - Lorde
"She looks very sexy and sassy in her new video, I love it! I love her new look, she is really all grown up. I love that she cut her hair. Some people were iffy that she cut it, but I love people that have the balls to do whatever they want. I can tell now Miley is really developing into her own self. I love her twerking moments. That's what is all about being an artist." - Nicki Minaj
"The best concert I have ever been to in my life. Probably the best concert I will ever go to in my life. She is the best right now. She's the best pop star. She's like the only rock star. Literally everything was so good about it, like her voice was perfect the whole way through, she looked amazing, the graphics were incredible, the lights - just the whole thing was so cool." - Charli XCX
"The controversy around her shouldn't distract from her being a quintessential pop star. She's this generation's Madonna - a hugely talented pop star with agency over her body and sexuality, which terrifies people. And she's constantly switching up between sounds. 'Bangerz' is part electro, part country, part rap, all incredible." - Tegan & Sara
"I really thought the collaboration with Miley was amazing… I loved it. [VMA performance]" - Selena Gomez
"I saw [her] at the O2 in London [in May], and I'm not exaggerating when I say it's one of the best shows that I've seen in years. It's up there with an Oasis show or the Stone Roses or something. It's kind of incredible to watch -- she's a real force. There's no two ways about it, she's meant to be up there doing that." - Lily Allen
"She's a smart person. She's really supportive of other girls her age, which I don't usually find with pop stars. That's why I find it funny when people call her a bad feminist. She's actually one of the most supportive artists I've met." - Sky Ferreira
"She sound checked every day, she came and danced in our dressing room…she's a crazy girl and she's such a lovely [person] and she's smart… She's crazy and she's fun but that's her expressing herself on stage and in her music. But she's really a smart woman and everything on stage…was her idea. She's the boss of everything and it's just very inspiring to be around someone who's having a lot of fun because she's doing stuff her way and with her friends and her crew, but in a very professional way." - Icona Pop
“She’s incredibly talented. I can say it until I’m blue in the face — people have to see it for themselves. At the end of the day, when you hear the rest of her album, you won’t be trying to give her advice — you’ll be asking for some." - Pharrell
"Miley's a great talent. She's young and ambitious and wants to do it her way. Madonna did it her way, and she became one of the greatest female entertainers of all time." - Nelly
"I never thought I would collaborate with Miley Cyrus, but I am so glad it happened. It's like not even real to me! I have to pinch myself. It's almost like a dream come true 'cause she is super talented. We made a lot of great records together." - Juicy J
"I saw her sing on stage with Dolly Parton and I thought it was pretty amazing. She is talented actually I think beyond all the extra publicity." J. Cole
"My favorite stuff? It’s changing. If I watch something and it’s on my mind, I’ll have a stronger interest and I’ll be listen more. I was listening to Miley Cyrus after the [VMAs]. Because to me, [she’s making] a creative choice. That’s all. And the things she was doing, I could see Madonna doing it and being accepted immediately. But it’s how they perceive her. And it’s not [by] that creative choice. The perception is "[You're] Hannah Montana, so stay there." - 50 Cent
"Miley Cyrus is a GOD." - Jay Z
“I just met her the day of the VMAs and I was like, ‘Just go, go for it and do what you feel.’ If that was a thought, if you have an idea creatively, from a DONDA perspective, I would just want her to twerk more." - Kanye West
""Her album will redefine everything you think of as Miley Cyrus. She's really, really, really talented! I mean she was Hannah Montana like a couple weeks ago, and now she's Miley Cyrus. In a totally different way she reinvented herself. And hat's off, I applaud her for that, re-educating the entire planet on who she truly is." - Will.i.am
"When asked about his favourite cover of any of the band's songs, Helders said: "I think Miley Cyrus' version of 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High',"
The host then asked, "Are you being sarcastic?" to which the drummer responded: "No, there's some bits in there that I wish we'd have done." - Arctic Monkeys

Legends, pop girls, rappers, and sports stars all praising Miley. [Out of genuine fondness too and not some weird Hive mind mentality.] WHO else!
