To be fair, he really did seem over prior to that roast. His commercial failure in late 2013 was something else. If he was female, he would've gotten dragged harder on here than Britney and Gaga combined considering that there was an entire media **** storm following his album release.
His album was slated to debut with less than Britney Jean before his manager begged Billboard not to report the numbers, his documentary tanked and made Part of Me look like a blockbuster success, none of his singles reached the top 10 or received certification, and even his streaming took a hit. One of his music videos from that era JUST reached 100M views like a few weeks ago.
And of course there's the DUI, Anne Frank incident, pissing in a bucket, egging houses, etc.
