Stop being hypocrites and maintaining higher standards for certain pop stars and accept that these numbers emphasize Katy's lack of star power and weak fan base.

I agree. These numbers are ATROCIOUS!!! Hideous!!! Absolutely devastating to her career!!
I don't care if she sell 20M copies down the road somehow, because all I know is her opening week numbers are the PITS.
Like you mentioned: this hypocritical higher standard that other stars have, (Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Adele) should be laughed at... Because in one breath people suggest they aren't the stars they used to be or are just flat out local, but yet their album sales always suggest otherwise. Especially, Beyoncé and Alicia Keys. Their opening numbers are normally decent. But somehow, people manage to discredit them when it's convenient.
Furthermore, in situations like the one Katy found herself in, yes it's a good thing she "increased" a bit from her previous album, but when you crunch the numbers and look a bit deeper, you'll notice that her previous numbers were so low, that it's quite OBVIOUS that ANYONE would increase from that. Katy included. I mean...were we REALLY expecting her to DECREASE to even lower numbers?
Overall, I just feel like...let this be a lesson, that numbers don't mean everything, it should ALWAYS be about the art and the music.
When the Beyhive mentioned how "4" was Beys best album..it was not in defense of her lackluster single success, but also because the music itself was much more personal and warm.
