It's a good song, but I heard it on KIIS today and I noticed how much it suffers from the basic Gaga song problem. The first 2 1/2 minutes are great, but the other half is literally just Gaga repeating "I'm on the edge, the edge, the edge the edge, I'M ON THE EDGE WITH YOU!!!"
I don't get how it hurts its commercial appeal. Number ones are infectious and repetitive, it's just the way it works. Look at I Gotta Feeling.

There are exceptions (Single Ladies, the most repetitive song...EVER?), but generally songs that work on the radio aren't too long and they adhere to a very strict structural formula that make for easy and not annoying listening.
A song that drags on will not hurt a song commercially (radios will always make edits), but it would be nice if Gaga becomes better at ending songs concisely. In my opinion though, TEOG's ending is perfect. It has the perfect amount of repetitiveness to make the final chorus epic. Imo it's one of her very best songs.
Paparazzi (which is another one of my favorites) does almost too good of a job at not dragging on. I almost wish that the ending was less sudden than just a final chorus with nothing added on. The best songs have a balance between dragging on and ending concisely.

I would agree with you if we were talking 5 years ago, but now the standard seems to be a hard hitting beat with a catchy hook. The catchiest bits of radio hits these days are the oooo's and ohhh's. But there are exceptions.
Girl, no similarity there. You and I is fabulous throughout and holds the diversity in the sound. The emotion in her voice, the lyrics and the pacing of the song change throughout.
You and I is my least fave. I hated the live version...and the studio version made me hate it even more. That song belongs on a Shania Twain demo tape from 1996...not ****ing Born This Way.
...So I guess I'm the only one that thinks TEOG is boring and one of the worst, bland songs on the album. I really think I just need the video to make it click with me more though.

Hmm. I LOVE You and I. The fact that it's not a Rock/Pop blend like the other rockier songs on the album gives me life. It's so anthemic to me. It gives me If-this-song-is-released-it-will-be-a-classic teas. The retro feel just kills me.

I agree. It's a cute pop song and a good album closer, but that's all.
Poker Face is the best example of her dragging a song on and on. The first few times I listened to it, I was like... Oh is this the end?..... nope... Is this the... nope... How about n.... nope... DAMN IT WOMAN.
I know what you mean after a while I always think it's the end, but it can continue all it wants
