It's no longer a death sentence if you discover it early enough and begin treatment and take your meds perfectly, for life.
If you **** up your meds or expose yourself to serious illnesses or infections it can still kill you. You can also happen to get a strain that's very resistant to current treatments and the retrovirals will wreck havoc with your body. Or if you get another serious illness, if you need a serious operation, if you get cancer, it will be an issue.
It's not a walk in the park. It's still a serious, threatening, lifelong disease. Wrap it up, kids. And if you make a mistake go to emergency immediately and get on PEP. It's not a guarantee so still wrap it up, but it can save you.
