Well, basically GX was just fillers, aka random episodes with no real plot.
Until episode like 120 started to be a plot.

I remember watching a couple episodes of GX and I recall monsters like the three God cards but they weren't really the God cards just lookalikes?
Yep. Raviel, Lord of Phantasms (Obelisk), Uria, Lord of Searing Flames (Slifer) and Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder (Ra). All cheap knock-offs, but whatever. Their designs are pretty cool regardless.
I used to slay with my Obelisk card so hard, I remember I made my friend cry because he bet his Slifer and I bet my Obelisk and we dueled for them and I won, his face turned red.
We never messed with Ra because we didn't know how to use the card
