Welcome castaways to your 7th Results Show. Below will be the rates/commentary of the judges for each of the contestants. After you browse through those, I will post the individual average scores for each tribe's contestants, a leaderboard showing how you all rank individually at this point, and most importantly the final average team scores which will determine which tribe is heading to Tribal Council.
This round you submitted a one sentence explanation so that will be shown as well.
For any reminders as to what each score means:
A score of...
9 - 10: You clearly understand the theme and delivered an A level entry.
8 - 8.5: You understand the theme and showed it with your song, but your song fails to do so as strongly as the 9 - 10 level entries.
7 - 7.5: You scraped the theme well enough but there's something missing that's keeping you from nailing it.
5 - 6.5: There's something related to the theme but it's not primary enough to receive a high score.
4 - 5.5: There's barely anything related to the theme at all.
2 - 3.5: You sent in a song. We're just not sure why.
1 - 1.5: You sent in a song period.
With that said, let's get started...
Tribe Abantu
1. coolcristobal - Jessie J feat. B.o.B. - Price Tag
Quote:
It addresses the problem of this money-obsessed world we live in and how easily everyone sells out.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 8.5 - In the middle of the pack this round but hey, an 8.5 is never really a bad thing in this game. I like the song and the message Jessie is conveying with how obsessed people are with money rather than the rwal values in this world. Cute choice. Better than last week.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 7.5 - You fit the theme obviously but since everyone did this time we have to be a bit more personal with our ratings and judge by what we personally think a 10 scoring song is. This song is cute and all but I think lyrically the songs that have more depth to them work a bit better. I just like a more serious approach when it comes to themes like this. This song really only scratches the surface imo but you didn't do bad, the other songs were just better fits to me.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 9 - This is a really good choice, it’s an issue that definitely plagues us and that Jessie seems personally connected to. B.o.b. brings the song down because he’s a terrible lyricist and I’m not even sure what he’s talking about for part of it. Overall, awesome choice!
|
2. johnsuxx - Christina Aguilera feat. Lil Kim - Can't Hold Us Down
Quote:
It's about sexism and the repression and double standards that women face.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 10 - This was definitely going to be an example but I wanted to show two different approaches so I chose queen of pop Jewel instead. One of my favorites once again. Great song about the ******** double standards women face. You're on a winning streak. Keep it up john.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 10 - Stripped is one of my favorite albums of all time so it's great too see one of the iconic tracks from that album being chosen! I've always loved this song but being so young when it came out I didn't really completely understand or experience what Christina was singing about. But now as a grown woman I can relate to this so much! It's just so honest and real. It's sad us women still have to face some of these archaic and unfair double standards. Fight against those double standards, Legend X!
|
Quote:
Ethan - 10 - Awesome choice, there’s definitely a difference between typical girl power anthems and this song, it really bluntly states how repressed they are. Lil Kim’s verse means even more now that we know how much abuse she went through. Really good choice.
|
3. BlazingLovatic - The Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love?
Quote:
Where Is The Love (Black Eyed Peas) is a song about the lack of humanity people in society show towards each other, where violence and abuse is prominent.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - This one didn't even cross my mind when I was writing up the challenge and I used to LOVE this song. Really nice song with a nice message to treat each other like actual human beings.. Too bad BEP's music went to **** one album after this. Anyway, nice choice!
|
Quote:
Nicole - 9 - Another song I've always really enjoyed! Such a simple message but a very true one. If only we would spend our time treating others with love and respect instead of the opposite, the world would be such a better place. Too bad that unfortunately the world isn't that easy. Everyone can relate and be in agreeance with this one.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 8 - This was the first song I thought of when I read the round theme, and I absolutely love it, but upon further inspection, I don’t think it’s quite perfect because it doesn’t really focus on a social issue; it mentions several, and the song overall is definitely a call for action to make things better, but it’s a little all over the place sometimes. Still a good choice!
|
4. Speezy - Guy Sebastian - Get Along
Quote:
So many conflicts happening and no one realizes the good that can happen if they come together.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 8 - It works for the theme, but I wish it was a little more specific in the issues it's tackling. There's a lot of conflicts coming along but what are they exactly? Maybe a little more elaborating would have helped you out. It's similar to Where Is The Love? but I think WITL is the superior one here Nevertheless, good choice.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 8.5 - Strange this song came right after Where Is The Love because I see some similarities between them lyrically. I like WITL better but you still did do a good job and obviously fit the theme well. The video for this song was really well done!
|
Quote:
Ethan - 8 - Like “Where is the Love?”, there isn’t really a focus on a social issue here. It definitely calls out a lot of the terrible things going on in the world, but it’s not specific enough about a single issue to be perfect. I like the song though, I had never heard of it!
|
5. -brian - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Wing$
Quote:
This song, featured in the Grammy winning album The Heist by the Grammy winning duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, addresses the deep-rooted issue of materialism/consumerism that is plaguing the youth of America.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 8.5 - The Nike references helped you out here because of what a large brand. The song definitely represents what you said it did with the whole materialism problem. Not the best choice this round, but still a pretty damn good one. THis was just a competitive round. Very consistent player.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 8.5 - Materialism isn't something I necessarily view as the biggest issue in the world nor the issue that moves me the most to hear discussed in songs but nevertheless it is indeed an issue that is prevalent today. I think Macklemore is a great rapper and I like that he chooses to rap about meaningful topics instead of meaningless ones. He does do a good job at painting the picture of how this issue is a part of so many young people's lives and how they can value the wrong things in life.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 9 - It takes a little while to get to the point, but it definitely makes a strong case against the consumerism that has taken over our society. Leave it to Macklemore! Great choice.
|
6. Bey_RihStan - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Mary Lambert - Same Love
Quote:
Same Love by rap duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis is a song about being accepted into today's society nasically defending homosexuality, and saying that you aren't any different from straights.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 9.5 - I'm gay but I find this song so damn corny. But back to judging... It totally hits the nail on the head with the whole gay rights social issue that is prominent today. Song like this especially exposed to communities where homosexuality is taboo are ways to help the issue so very nice choice. PS Pretty sure everyone on ATRL bashed Macklemore until this song came out.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 10 - This song has always been a powerful one and I commend Macklemore for breaking boundaries in the hip-hop world and putting out a song like this. In this day and age, people should indeed be more open minded. There is no more time for discrimination, hate, and oppression. Love it!
|
Quote:
Ethan - 10 - I knew this one was coming, and rightfully so. Sometimes it must really suck for y’all in our society! Bummer. Thanks for not choosing a Beyonce song again.
|
7. rl231 - P!nk feat. The Indigo Girls - Dear Mr. President
Quote:
"Dear Mr. President," released in 2006, is a song that criticizes former US President George W. Bush by discussing his former alcohol and drug usage, his views on equal rights for homosexuals, the No Child Left Behind act, lack of empathy for the poor and middle class, strong religious beliefs, and the Iraq War, chastising him for his hypocrisy and skewed views.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - One of my favorite songs from P!nk's best album no matter what ATRL or anyone else says. It's a different approach but I like it. I wouldn't say George Bush is a social issue, but problems with the government are and that's more what she's focusing on here even if it is directed toward George Bush so it's acceptable. Nice choice.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 9 - Well P!nk is definitely addressing a lot of issues in this long. I always do commend her for being so honest and blunt. She always speaks her mind! When the song came out there were definitely a lot of people struggling and having grievances with the government and how they were handling certain issues. This was a good choice!
|
Quote:
Ethan - 6 - Meh, I can see where you’re coming from partly, but George W. Bush isn’t really a social issue. I couldn’t find anything more to give you points for, it’s a great song, but not a great choice for this round.
|
8. NEZ LUNAR - John Lennon - Imagine
Quote:
The song is about suggesting how the world would be better without religion and the government.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 9.5 - Surprised no one sent this in. You had trouble finding a song for like the 50th time but you came out on top regardless. Obviously fits the theme with him saying to imagine putting all these differences aside and actually living in peace rather than just talking about it. Very nice round for you. I just preferred the more sassy entries a teensy bit more which is the only reason I didn't give you a 10.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 10 - You better slay with one of the most famous songs ever written. I'm sure we've all imagined if the world was like this at one point or another. Maybe one day we will all truly live as one.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 10 - Your description is a bit of an over-simplification, but this song is definitely a strong call to action for us to all get along. Classic! Nice job.
|
Tribe Jikelele
1. Starships - Kacey Musgraves - Follow Your Arrow
Quote:
Whatever you'll do, society will ALWAYS criticize you. So might as well just do whatever you want and "follow your arrow".
|
Quote:
Dylan - 9 - Aww, very cute song. Many different issues are mentioned but they all come together in the end with her telling us to follow our arrow wherever it's pointing to. I like this because it's a little less serious but still gets the point across. It's a less serious approach which has always appealed to me more when it comes to songs like these. Nice improvement.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 8 - This song is very relatable. It's very easy to feel like you're "damned if you do and damned if you don't" in the world so indeed you should just do whatever the hell you want and not worry about any possible criticism. Not the most serious issue or anything but definitely one that is real.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 10 - This is literally the only self-empowerment song from the past few years (like Born This Way, Firework, We Can’t Stop, Raise Your Glass) that has really touched me. It touches on a wide range of social issues, and it ties them all together nicely in a cute little package. Awesome choice.
|
2. Lucky#17 - Michael Jackson - Heal The World
Quote:
This song addresses too many issues to list - it basically is about making the world a better place, from hate, poverty, from it all.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 8.5 - Similar to Where Is The Love and Get Along sent by Abantu members... this one's in the middle of those two. I feel like it is a little bland in terms of describing the actual issues, but it's a very powerful song and gets the message across very successfully. Nice choice.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 9 - Well, I do think the video portrays the issues of the world more than the song itself. I mean I know the song is about erasing the issues and bringing peace to the world but I wish it described what is wrong in the world a little more. Regardless, it was obviously a great choice. I love songs about peace! They're just so joyful and uplifting to listen to.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 8 - Beautiful song, and not a bad choice, but it’s too vague to fit perfectly. It asks people to help make the world a better place, but I don’t know that it really talks about social issues.
|
3. Sebas - Madonna - American Life
Quote:
This song is basically her view on what the U.S has become, about how the "American Life" is defined by negative things like superficiality, greed, materialism, etc.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 8 - The infamous American Life i see. Not my favorite song ever. It definitely touches on the theme with her criticizing how superfical the United States has become according to her. I feel like others may have hit the nail on the head harder but this is definitely a solid entry. Better than last round for sure. Good choice.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 8.5 - Well, this has never been my favorite Madonna song. Parts of it are definitely a bit cringeworthy lyrically but obviously the right intent was there. This does in fact fit the theme of course. Madonna is another artist I respect for always speaking her mind!
|
Quote:
Ethan - 8 - Like some of the others, it definitely sheds light on a problem, but I don’t know if it really speaks about a social issue. Plus it’s a dreadful song. Not a bad choice, just not exactly what I was looking for.
|
4. MiMiLamb - Martina McBride - Concrete Angel
Quote:
"Concrete Angel" is a power ballad, centering around a main theme of child abuse and in a different context, bullying, the narrator tells a story about 7-year-old Angela Carter, near the end, her mother beats Angela to death.[1]
|
Quote:
Dylan - 9.5 - I went on wikipedia to look into the song more and found your exact same sentence in the first paragraph of the article. Beautiful song. Don't think anyone can deny that. I like how it tell a story which seperates you from the pack this round but in a positive light which is different from last round. Touches on the subject of child abuse perfectly. You were also the only one to choose that subject. Really good round for you lambchop.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 10 - You better snatch that one sentence explanation straight from Wikipedia with ease. On a serious note though this has always been one of the most heartbreaking songs I've ever heard! Don't think I've ever been able to listen without it just taking me to an extremely emotional place and bringing a tear to my eye. Heartbreaking!
|
Quote:
Ethan - 10 - This talks about a social issue (child abuse) very bluntly, but puts it in the context of a sad country song, which is a perfect mix. This is exactly what this round is about, awesome job.
|
5. Zune - Hope Partlow - Who We Are
Quote:
This song discusses about how the world tell us to be something other then what we actually are, from appearances, to having the "right things, to people judging us for being different.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 8 - WAIT. This song was covered by the Cheetah Girls on their album without Raven TCG. I like their rendition a lot more tbh. However, I like the issue you're representing. It's relating to superficiality which many others catered to as well. It does have a self empowering theme to it that may not work that well in your favor which is why I have you in the 8 range rather than a 9. Much better than last round though. Good.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 8 - I've never heard this song before but I must say I did enjoy it! It's not one of the songs that goes into the most depth regarding the issue it's discussing but I do like songs that put out the message that girls shouldn't aspire to be and look like what they see on TV. Because ultimately that stuff is an inaccurate depiction of the average woman!
|
Quote:
Ethan - 9 - It’s a bit loose on the social issue, but it definitely holds the same message a few others this round have had about self-worth and not letting society get you down. I had never heard this song before! Nice choice.
|
6. Element - Lily Allen - Hard Out Here
Quote:
Lily Allen's "Hard Out Here" deals with the seemingly never ending inequality of women in this world, specifically pointing out how they are discriminated against in the entertainment industry, judged heavily by ridiculous physical beauty standards, and objectified by men all of the time.
|
Quote:
Dylan - 10 - One of the best this round again and that's saying something considering everyone did very well this round. Love the song. Love the cause. I like how it's a parody like the examples were. Those type of songs appeal more to me personally when it comes to addressing social issues. It just keeps getting better for you. Keep it up.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 9.5 - As I've said in some of my other comments I usually do like a more serious approach to songs like this but with Lily I love her sarcastic and witty lyrics. They're her trademark and they always work so well and this song is no exception because it still points out the issues that woman face in society. The video is awesome as well!
|
Quote:
Ethan - 10 - I can’t stand this song, but it’s definitely perfect in the way it makes light of the struggle women go through in our society. The one-two punch of the song and video make this a really stellar entry. Good job!
|
7. Starmie - Nelly Furtado - Powerless (Say What You Want)
Quote:
The song is about discrimination, especially in the music industry, pop stars being "white-washed" (Nelly has said she wrote the song because her record company wanted to hide her ethnicity.)
|
Quote:
Dylan - 8.5 - You chose a diferent topic involving the music industry which I think is cool. I think there could be more explanation from Nelly but other than that, it's yet another solid entry from you Starmie. You're playing a good game.
|
Quote:
Nicole - 8.5 - I like that this theme is a pretty unique one among the bunch. This is a good song and a good choice for the round overall obviously although I do think Nelly could have done a bit more with it lyrically but perhaps that's just me.
|
Quote:
Ethan - 10 - A different issue for this round than anyone else took, I don’t know if anyone would have thought of this song. However, it’s absolutely perfect. One of my favorite Nelly songs, she was really struggling with this stuff. Great job!

Why did I get a 6? It really feels unwarranted and unnecessary because I explained myself well as to why it was a social issue and EVEN listed the social issues and the hypocrisy of the George W. Bush presidency and the government, which was actually a social issue during its time and still is, especially with government

Now that you've seen how well (or poorly) you performed this round. It's time to announce which tribe is headed to Tribal Council. Now it's time to announce who is the winner of the seventh round and which tribe is headed to Tribal Council...
Results
The tribe coming in 1st place winning team immunity is...
Tribe Jikelele with an average of 8.95.
Coming in 2nd & heading to Tribal Council...
Tribe Abantu with an average of 8.94 falling behind by only a .01 margin.
Congrats to Tribe Jikelele for your first win of the semi-merge. You guys will not be heading to Tribal Council as you are safe this round. You can all breathe. However, Tribe Abantu will be heading to Tribal Council leaving 7 members remaining after the vote.
The members of the losing tribe are to PM me a vote for the member you want eliminated from your tribe. These votes are changeable meaning if you change your mind, your vote can also change. I'm not going to put a time stamp on your votes, but they should come in fast and in a shorter period than entries did for sure. Good luck to all of you in the vote. This is where alliances come into play. Scores are not everything. I'll see you all at Tribal Council.
Remember, johnsuxx is safe from the Abantu vote.
