Where did the notion of a Gen 6.5 even start?
If it's not point-blank Gen 7, the most new that we're going to get as far as Pokemon would be maybe some megas and possibly Mangina or something.
It's basically all or nothing, regarding new pokemon.

Back when XY came out people convinced that there will be a "Gen 6.5" with the rest of the Pokemon and a continuation of the story.
