They were already planning on closing NHB. That was in the cards weeks ago. KyKy's comment and the uproar following was the straw that broke the camel's back.
If you think that this was just a brash decision that was made last night then...
As Lipton mentioned, with the opening of HQ, the use of NHB was to be sparse; it was meant to be used organically. Instead, it was used by members such as the one I previously mentioned (and you, actually) to attack anything that moves and to try to one-up the offensiveness. It stopped serving a purpose.
