Stop. You're taking that quote more seriously than the haters.
Gaga called BTW "The album of the decade" AT HER CONCERT, FOR HER FANS. She was trying to get her fans excited and she was being hyperbolic. It's not like she went on primetime TV and said that. It was for the fans, and for many of them, the album exceeded their expectations.
Stop with this "it only sold because of hype" ********. It is illogical to give hype credit. The only thing hype helped was BTW's (single) first week sales. The song didn't stay #1 for six weeks because of hype, BTW didn't sell 6m copies WW because of hype, BTW and its songs didn't win 30+ awards in 2011 because of hype, BTW wasn't nominated for three Grammys because of its hype.
The hype had died by time the album actually came out and it was advertising and the massive promotional campaign that helped the album. Hype =/= promotion. Promotion is a good thing and is one of Interscope's strong points. To try and discredit BTW's success in any way, shape, or form makes you look like a bitter-ass hater who's mad that BTW didn't flop so you could brag about it since you didn't like the era.

Just saw that MDNA didn't break any of BTW's records.
Looks like Interscope wanted MDNA to do big things, but not bigger than Gaga.
