Nicole was a hot topic on today's episode of "The View"! Co-host Jenny McCarthy criticized her for not doing her research prior to attending the Pride of Britain Awards, where Nicole was asked a question on the red carpet about Malala Yousafzai, and was not totally aware of who Malala is. Whoopi Goldberg wasn't as harsh on Nicole, but I had found Jenny to be rude. She said, "You know what's amazing? If you asked her what she was wearing, she would be able to answer that question." Jenny had admitted to being in Nicole's shoes before, but she her statements still made her look hypocritical and judgmental.
Thank GOD for Barbara Walters and Sherri Sheperd, both of whom came to Nicole's defense, stating that they've previously been in similar situations, and that publicists are hired to prevent situations like this from happening. Barbara had stated that she has been to events wherein she did not know who the honorees are, and she's a highly accomplished and well-respected journalist! Sherri stated that Malala "was not the only honoree and that a lot of times, they will ask people, celebrities, to be there just 'cause they want a celebrity in the audience" and that publicists tell their clients that they are going to this event today, that event tomorrow, etc. etc. She continued to state that some events may even have up to 6 honorees, and it's not always possible for you to know every single one, and that people need to be cut some slack. Jenny responded with "then you shouldn't go." She raised her voice and continued, "If you're honoring someone like that, and you don't know, then get off the carpet!"
Barbara said that it's so easy to be caught up in the commotion on a red carpet when a reporter sticks a microphone in your face, and you aren't always able to think clearly and on your feet. "It happens. It's not that big a deal!"
Whoopi once again stressed that it is a publicist's job to inform their client. Sherri said "that publicist is a goner", haha. Then Jenny had to throw in one more time that Nicole "needs to take responsibility, and do the homework."
"None of us are perfect," says Whoopi.
Gosh, Jenny McCarthy needs to de-hype and shut UP. My goodness! Holier than thou even though she's been in the same exact situation before. Anyway, let us reflect upon the lyrics of "When I Grow Up", which are more than pertinent to the situation:
"You can talk about me
'Cause I'm a hot topic"
Anyway, I find it great that Nicole is making news, stateside, and was talked about on such a popular program.
