No. Grimshaw literally thought it was Harry when it was Niall and Liam because of the raspy vocals.

I didn't mean you. I meant that's the only reason I'm defending Harry because people are doing too much on his voice. I'm not pretending Harry's something he's not. I actually admitted his flaws?

I've never really seen Niall belt live. Maybe he has, but I haven't seen it. Even in the MTT performances, he changes the key on one of the higher notes in his solo. And that's fine. Niall knows his boundaries. That's why he has very simple solos.

and about liam. His voice is distinctive to me. It has a smooth and strong quality. I was saying that he doesn't get to showcase a "unique" voice. Since the beginning he's had to pull back and be the base that everyone sings off of. Like Up All Night for the most part his parts in songs were basic and dependable and that's the role he's stuck in. Whoever distributes verses generally go to Liam for strong core vocals and then let zayn come in with his riffs and harry comes with his rocky/raspy voice.

Liam is the best singer. He might not be the most unique but he's the best singer.
He's basically a nice medium between Harry and Zayn, he can cover their weaknesses.

I would say Niall and Louis are the most ~emotive. Niall has some great verses on this album.
Louis' best vocal moments are when his voice cracks, like in "Moments" and "Better Than Words".

Thanks and yeah Up All Night they seemed like they had more fun and put more effort into performing.

And same here. Well, I've been on ATRL since early 2012, but I had my doubts with joining the 1D base because a lot of directioners outside of ATRL are insufferable. But the 1D stans here are really awesome

Harry's vocal technique is bad, yes. He's straining his vocals and he doesn't have good breath control. You can tell he really has to try too hard to hit the notes and strain to make the obnoxious screeches he makes. He tries too hard to have a rock voice, when he just simply doesn't have it.

Liam butchered the part he was given, the funny thing is that he was imitating harry's style. I also said Liam slayed the lead melody on the BSE chorus unlike someone in SOML on the XF.

Yes, to each their own. We can like anyone's voices we like but I feel that when Liam messed up only a few words on BSE, I never heard the end of it. But when harry ****ed not one, but all of the choruses, everyone here sugar coded it. I hope that for his sake, he does better on their next SOML performance. I'll be the first to congratulate him on here.

And I guess we'll never know Liam's true voice potential cos they keep on giving him parts that aren't up to par with what he can actually do. I've said this before, he's the most experienced performer out of the 5 and has the most VOCAL versatility a long with zayn (who is naturally more soulful).

...but Harry's technique issues are not debatable. The reason he struggles with his notes on belts is he isn't using his breath efficiently enough to sustain them and control the notes. The way he sings is very breathy, which is part of what gives him a unique tone, but it wastes a lot of air as well which means that sometimes it is not there when he needs it.

He is essentially the opposite of Zayn. Zayn can belt all day, but tends to not have the vocal control to stay on pitch during the verses.

Liam has the ability to sound unique. His baritone is amazing along with his falsetto. I think that from the beginning Liam was the most technically sound and dependable so he became the base voice for all songs and this has carried through to their albums. His voice can blend to any tone even Harry's, he's like a chameleon. That means he barely gets a chance to show off.

Harry on the other hand chooses to highlight the raspy qualities of his voice but he can't control it live. However Liam and Niall can belt out raspy rock vocals as well as evident in BSE and OWOA.

I remember a couple interviews with Nick Grimshaw when those two songs came out and they were playing a game to guess who was singing what part. Nick kept guessing every raspy vocal was Harry and was getting it wrong. Even in the fandom people thought Liam didn't have solos in BSE and OWOA until the video came out.

Zayn just the one with the most raw vocal talent. His solo in the bridge of BSE is always drowned out by the other 4 singing oh oh oh into mics that are full volume. And tbqh I've only heard him miss pitch on riffs a handful of times. Almost never in concert.

Let me just add on to the fire. The only reason harry gets more singing time is because he is the one who is marketed in the group it has NOTHING to do with singing. If he were a good singer I'd be stanning for him.
He's decent at best but his voice has ZERO passion outside of the studio. The **** yall smoking?? :lmoa: I've seen them live and that was 'nough evidence for me.

He also gets lead melodies cos he's loud AND cos they are the easiest parts to sing! The parts he most often sings since UAN are the hooks. Which are by default super easy so people can sing along. To me he always sounds like he's just talking loudly in an American accent. But I respect that Mikey loves his tone.

Oh, and Penny. Have you not listened to MM? I've only heard it once and I immediately picked up on the fact that this album has the most versatility Liam has been able to show on an album. He's usually busy singing harmonies, you know, the hard parts that make a group sound good.
