I was so shocked to learn that the mom is the original witch. I thought the witches came from a black background, since all the witches shown were black

Hmm tough one, as terrible as what Klaus did/is still doing, I think the parents are more to be blamed. I mean
1) no one forced them to come to this "mystical land"
2) the black witch warned them from the consequences but the mother still went along with switching them to vampires
3) the mother cheated
4) the father seemed very hard on the sons
that's how I feel
