Ooh hey! I never knew this thread existed! I work out 4 times a week, 2 leg/ ab days and 2 upper body days. I have an insane metabolism so I have to eat around 3500 (healthy ofc) calories to gain muscle aside from my work outs.
I have been doing so for the past 6 months and I already made a lot of progress Anyways, I'll be posting in this thread now if that's okay! I always work out alone so I don't have anyone to discuss this stuff with, glad I found you guys

Question: I used to go to the gym at ;east 5 times a week just to run in the thread mill and I was on a somewhat decent weight but with finals and all that it's been nearly two months since I stopped and since I'm at home for winter break I eat my mom's food which isn't very healthy so I am gaining weight at an alarming rate. However I hate/can't run where I live for more than 15 minutes without getting too tired...it might be the air or something all I know is I prefer the thread mill which I don't have here. What is an alternate and effective form of exercise? I am not too focused on losing weight but rather on gaining it more slowly. Any help is much appreciated!!!

I'm in love with my abs
Does anyone do their sessions early in the morning? Like, 5 -7?

I think it's air resistance that makes it harder to run outside. I prefer it a lot more though because treadmill work is boring.
Although it's winter, swimming would be cool if you have a pool near you.

Yes I firmly believe that 4-6am is the best segment of the day to workout.

I've been working out a lot lately.
But it's when my boyfriend gets off of work at 11:30pm and I hate working out from midnight to 1am. I need to change my sleep schedule so I can work out from around 7am to 8am instead.
But, since I've kept track of my weight starting around Sept/Oct, I've gained now 4lbs.

Someone help me, I decided I'm going to start working out TOMORROW but I don't even know where to get started. The areas I'd like to work in are, mostly, my arms and chest, but I wanna get heavier all around.
I'm 17; 1,70m and I weigh 52 kg I'm so slim it hurts and I hate looking at myself in the mirror because I can kind of see my chest bones. All my friends have started working out in a gym and one of them gained 8 kg in 3 months so that made me want to start working out myself. I don't want to go to a gym though because I'm too shy for that and I have no equipment whatsoever at home.
I'm clueless about working out and healthy diets, someone help me get started please

Get over yourself and get a gym subscription.
If you want to get a better body, only do it for YOURSELF. And not because of how your friends are looking etc. It's about YOU feeling comfortable in YOUR body.
You could do work outs at home, there's loads of stuff you can find just by googling. But work outs at home will be very minimal. I suggest you go to a good gym. No one's going to be paying attention to you so you'll be fine.

If you're very thin and twinky then I would suggest starting with a lot of bodyweight exercises you can do at home with no equipment, such as abs sets, pushups, lunges etc just to get some muscle building. The reason gym equipment tends to be so effective is that it targets very specific muscles and breaks them down, so if you have no muscles to begin with this can actually be quite dangerous if you don't really know what you're doing, and could easily lead to injury.
The best thing would be to start on some home exercises to start the process off, and then once you start seeing success you'll be confident enough to hit up the gym and get the advice you need from the trainers to use the machines and equipment safely.
Alternatively, if you're very thin then you really wont need to build much muscle for it to start showing - you could drastically change the way you look through something like swimming, and then maybe move on to a gym if you want to do some more serious muscle building.

Yea but asking my parents to put me in a gym is a no no and there's no way I can pay for it by myself. Plus the only gym I have acess to is right across my school and I don't want to workout with all the people I try to avoid as much as possible on a daily basis so unfortunately going to a gym isn't really an option for me. Swimming is a whole different story, I've tried it before but I just didn't see the appeal and it's not something I enjoyed
So about abs sets, pushups and lunges... Do I just do them until I'm tired or what? Am I supposed to do them x times per day or x minutes per day? And will it start showing any results even if I don't change my diet? Because I eat pretty healthy already.

I understand you. I'm naturally skinny too, I'm 1,73 m tall and I started working out 8 months ago. I had a friend who helped me and taught me everything. Also, guys at my gym are extremely nice and helpful so that helped a lot. I gained like 13 kg since then and I'm pretty satisfied with my body. Soon I'll have my ideal body. I love working out and I used to go every single day. And trust me when you start noticing the results... God, it only motivates you to give 100 %.
Just start eating healthy, eat a lot to gain weight, and either go with a friend who can help you at the gym or get a personal trainer, just so you could learn the basics and then you'll be able to do it by yourself. You need to want it, and then you'll be able to achieve it. Good luck :-)

Hey thanks It's just that I absolutely don't have the balls to ask my parents to go to a gym. It's too expensive and I don't want them to feel bad because they can't pay for it, so I've just accepted that that's out of question.
About the food... Sorry if this sounds really stupid, but if I start eating more won't I just get fatter? Because I don't eat too much but I eat kinda healthy even though I love snacks like chips and all that stuff.

Oh, I see... Well, if you want the perfect body you need to work for it. Try to find a job maybe, just so you can earn some money. I don't know where you live but I'm sure that not every gym is that expensive, I don't know...
Yeah, but if you are getting ' fatter ' you'll be able to turn that fat into muscle. Since you are skinny, you need to eat a lot. You need proteins, fruits, vegetables, etc... But yeah, you are allowed to have snacks, not a lot a lot but you are skinny, so that works for you.

Oh ok thanks, I get it. I guess I'll try to eat more and to do what I can at home, though from what you guys told I got the idea that if I don't go to a gym I'm pretty much screwed
Guess I'll be forever skinny, sigh

Ke$hamon,
Basically, you need to eat more than you're burning on a daily basis. Considering your metabolism is probably high, you need to eat around 2,500 to 3,000 calories a day. Download a free app to help with this. The easiest way to do this is to eat six meals a day, but make them smaller than normal meals if you eat 3 a day. Make sure you're eating healthy meals though. You will want to have higher protein than usual if wanting to gain muscle. Eat oatmeal, tuna, chicken, beans, eggs, milk, ect. But of course eat other things like fruits, vegetables, and grains. Stay away from fast food, sweets, and sodas and drink more water.
For working out, I highly suggest the home workout suggested earlier. Do pushups until you can't anymore, rest for a minute, and do that two more times. Do the same for crunches, and triceps dips on a chair. Do these to build up some arm and chest muscles for a couple of months. Then, if you feel comfortable that would be the time to get a gym membership. I'm not sure if there is a Planet Fitness where you are, but the membership there is only $10 a month and the staff is really friendly and will help you understand how to use their facilities.
If you do get the gym membership, I would stick to the machines for another month or two (or do their 30 minute room) until again you feel comfortable and then move to weights. Watch some instructional Youtube videos or download a weight lifting app like BodySpace or Fitness Buddy to learn proper form. And then just move from there.
On a side track, if you want something other than just basic bodyweight exercises, maybe start with Yoga? This great channel has several workouts that range from 15 minutes to an hour long and they range on what that specific workout goal is. https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithtim/videos
I'm on showdown all the time too (titanical) so if you have any questions you can PM me there too

I took up kickboxing as a form of exercise, and I love it.
It's great for toning the arms. I really want to lose 20 lbs this next couple of months. I've been working out good, but my vice has always been food. Especially sweets and.... fried chicken tenders.
I used to weigh 270, but I've gradually gotten my weight down to 190. It's taken me 5 years tho.
