EW's first impression of Kelly on one of their American Idol recaps... :

KELLY CLARKSON (Season 1)
Are we really going to remember Jazmin or Kelly after tonight? Oh, wait. Kelly actually made the cut. How is it possible that the utterly forgettable (even Simon admitted he couldn't remember her) ''R-E-S-P-E-C-T'' singer got a spot in the finals before Angela, whose rendition of ''Run to You'' would have made Whitney proud? Still, Justin must have been relieved since she is no competition for him. —Jessica Shaw, June 27, 2002 http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,2031....html#20009137
Kelly has all the posibilities to get the #1 on Itunes: Adele- Minaj-Guetta are decreasing, the one song that have more increases that WDKY is WY-Glee but thiis song, soon will fall down and very fast because all the glee covers and generics and "magically" their songs appears from the #1 to #124323urge7qw8et4r327899999 in minutes
CASH COWS
The Cash Cow is a performer with high sales in a low-growth market. After starting out a Star, Kelly Clarkson became a Cash Cow in 2011, nearly nine years after her Idol win. It’s a terrible title but not a bad market position. Over the course of her nine-year career, Clarkson has sold around 11 million albums, including half a million in sales for her most recent release, Stronger. Though she consistently performs well on the charts and continues to sell, the pop audience has changed since her 2002 win. It keeps getting younger. By 2010, artists like Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, Miley Cyrus, and Lady Gaga were cutting significantly into Clarkson’s fan base of tweens and teenagers. Additionally, the entire rock market – of which Clarkson (and pop generally) is a part – declined by 16 percent in 2010. And unlike Underwood, Clarkson simply doesn’t have the kind of celebrity personality that excites the tabloids and endears her to the public, which makes her less sought after by brands.
RS always shade her albums, its no surprise. They're so pretentious nowadays, probably to make up for the fact noone really respects them anymore. They've gone downhill a lot.
I didn't know that

To be fair a lot of what is said here is true... The term "cash cow" is misleading because it makes it sound like Kelly is only in it for the money or something and her music/style has no substance, which is obviously not true because Kelly ISN'T one of those celebrities that tries to brand themselves and whatnot and actually does have talent and passion for what she does. But they are right that the pop market has changed since Kelly's peak during Breakaway which has put Kelly in a fairly difficult position. I think they are greatly underestimating her though as Kelly has already adjusted fairly well and quickly became an AC staple when her so called "star" run apparently ended and WDKY is ironically making its way up the charts as we speak...
But the real question is... why does RS even have an article about this? Rating artists and stardom by their celebrity appeal and whether their boyfriends are famous or not? LOL.
Started off with them naming all the winners going from season 10 to season 1. Showed Kelly's winning moment and all the kids saying they started watching season 1 with Kelly Clarkson!!! Showed little kids who were 6, singing and watching Kelly on TV, and now they're 16 and trying out. Keep getting that damn promo girl!!!!
@RyanSeacrest How old were you when you watched @kelly_clarkson win #idol season 1?
