Racism is a very strange and foreign concept to Chinese people.
90-95% of Chinese will never have the chance to even talk to a black people in real life, while white people in America go to school, work and live with black people everyday.
Howllywood movies and sports tournaments such as NBA are probably the only black exposure to them. Where do you think the 'black people are strong, violent and dangerous' impressions are from.
You can't use the western standards to judge them on this issue when the majority of Chinese people haven't even experienced racism or been racists themselves through their whole life..In addition, Asian people don't have the so called 'White Guilt', there was no black slavery or systemic racism against black people in their history..
That's why the governments and schools in Asia don't feel the need to teach kids and their citizens about racism. However they should start doing it now.
Don't expect Chinese people or people from East and SE countries to be sensitive and political correct like you in one day, it takes time, a lot of time.
If the backlash of this commercial could change 100 Chinese people's views of the world, it's good enough.
Edit: I searched the keywords of this commercial on Weibo, only 3 results came out, the brand is pretty much unknown...
anyways none of y'all live in china so getting upset at media in a country that has nothing to do with you is redundant since you cant do anything to change it
