Thread got closed - so disappointed, I was loving the controversial hazard icon by it for a while but not happy to see that this has happened. I thought they could only get closed for false / hateful information, etc.? I cited every single one.
EDIT: I found this, but I don't feel it's strong enough reasoning for this thread

ATRL does not completely disallow discussion of sensitive topics such as religion, politics, abortion, euthanasia, discrimination, etc. However, history has shown that such threads can quickly get out of hand. In this case we prefer closing them in addition to punishing the disruptive individuals. Do not be surprised if your thread about a sensitive topic gets closed with no further explanation.

I figure it's an uphill battle with vegan threads on here - given the likelihood that every last one of the mods are avid omnivores, I've always thought it'd be difficult to host information on here. Oh well, we'll be there one day guys
EDIT 2: Just got re-opened! It was closed for fear of arguments occurring so if you get a second please pop in and leave a positive comment! I was warned that if people get messy it will instantly be closed. So nice of the mods to reconsider!

Is it bad if I go over my carb intake?
According to MyFitnessPal:
1. I hit my protein goal
2. I went over 32grams of Carbs
3. My Fat intake is in the middle

What are the best substitutes for cow's milk, yoghurt (with probiotics) and cheese? These are the only products preventing me from being vegan.
I've tried almond milk but it clashes with my coffee and cereal.

There tends to not be a universal replacement - some are good for one use, and others are good for something different. For lattes I'd suggest soy milk, it helps to achieve a creamy, dairy-like consistency. I use almond milk in any cereals I have, but I'd say rice, soy and oat milk would go just as well. Cashew milk is also fantastic! For yoghurts, coconut yoghurt is a popular alternative - but it doesn't really "substitute" the original taste, it's pretty original in itself. Here in Australia, there are almond and soy based products on the market that are pretty good. It's also quite simple to make your own if you feel up to it! I'm sure the US has some fantastic brands though.
Cheese is probably the most polarising replacement - again it depends on personal preference. Vegans are pretty much divided over their favourite alternatives (though there never has to be a one-to-one substitute in veganism), and again I'd say it's based upon what it's going in/on and the brand. I'd say the best thing is to do is to just go from A to Z and test as many you can find in your area. Many try one and dismiss all replacements after trying one variety, but they're all very unique, so I'm sure you'll find one you like!

It should be yeah . I don't really see why it wouldn't be? Maybe check the ingredients just in case it has a milk emulsifier or stabilizer or something in it but I doubt it!

What do y'all use for recipes and all that?
I'm not really considering vegan/vegatarianism, but I'm trying to cut down on meat and I'd love a few resources for non-meat cooking.

I am completely uneducated on the topic, but I have been saying I would like to go vegan for the past 1-2 years.
I haven't researched the health benefits, cost of vegan products, and I've never watched one of those animal cruelty videos.
Personally I want to become vegan because I don't agree with animal cruelty, and over the past year or so I've questioned how beneficial meat actually is, if it is indeed so manufactured.
I don't think it's one of those things that I just want to jump on the bandwagon, but I also see people living healthy, happy lives and are vegan, and I think I want that as well.
My main concern would be we are all so keen now to join up, but do we actually know the long term affects of becoming vegan, I guess that's my biggest question, and fear. Like I said I'm really educated on the subject, if someone would like to educate me that would be great! Cost, health benefits, how you feel after leaving meat etc behind..
I'm not so worried about leaving meat behind, because I personally don't overly enjoy meat. I do enjoy chicken, as I love like chicken soups and things, but if I were to find alternatives, then I think I would be fine. It's more so the fact that meat seems like it is the staple of most dishes, the center and I would really know what to substitute it for, and have it be tasty and affordable.

I made quinoa as part of my breakfast and my mom wanted to try it and she said ''this is good but it'd be a lot better in chicken broth''

This is fantastic! I seriously can't express how happy this makes me feel. I forwarded you two very informative PMs that I've written before - please write back with any specific questions or new discussion! I tend to know most things when it comes to veganism, and if I don't, I'd love to look through it with you!

Ooh I like this question! I'm going to research it and hopefully can structure a nice reply for it by the end of the day - I've wondered this too!
-
On another note, guys - I love the amount of vegan threads there are on here now (6 on the lounge page as I write this)! We don't even have to start them now. Whether positive or negative, for about the past week or so there's been vegan threads that haven't even left the top page. This is an opportunity for people to learn more and more!
Remember too; it doesn't need to be a positive thread for positive change to occur. I've been trying to jump into a few 'why are vegans so rude!!1!' threads with nice, informative replies and the results are palpable with people in my PMs.
On here at least, I reckon the nice-as-possible approach is the way to go!

Hello !
I don't support animal testing personally. I don't think animals should be exploited just for human gain. I get why some people might support it, but to me an animal life is not less than a human life so people shouldn't have the right to experiment on them.
