1989. It's not a bad thing, either, because 1989 is a really good pop album. Her presence/image has definitely multiplied 100x, whether for better or worse, this era.

Adele's return was big, but she couldn't beat dance music this time around. She collected those record breaking sales, though, so I'm not sure why she or her fans should be bothered.

I don't think it's a lack of work ethic as much as it is Taylor being competitive and wanting to break into the pop industry as a bigger force (which is crazy because she was already a huge star before). Adele doesn't care about being the most famous person on the planet, and tbh with her numbers, she doesn't have to push a seven single era with a world tour on top of it.

regarding tour; yes 1989 is bigger (so far) but that's more because Tayor choose to do bigger arenas/stadiums. the demand for Adele's tour tickets were like nothing ever seen before. 4 million queueing for the New York tickets only says it all

Bigger era. ERAAAAA. It means not only SALES but also airplays, streams, tour, endorsements, awards and acclaim, etc. Although Adele sold more, so far it doesn't have the longevity 1989 has during its run. Sure, Hello is bigger but being the bigger ERA means that it should produce more than one hit and thus 1989 so far won at this moment. Let's wait untill Adele is completely done with this era and let's compare these two eras.
