Well, there already was discussion about R&B being called local by ATRLers and R&B fans bringing up ATRL's racist ways as if it were the only reason why ATRL calls it a local genre Just grow up and get over it, this goes to fans of any type of music, not everyone has the same taste and of course there will always be ignorant opinions and arguments, getting mad at what a bunch of strangers say online is a bit silly to be honest. I personally hate rock, but let's not act like ATRL's fans of pop and R&B are any better, can there be any respect or tolerance in this forum for ****'s sake
It's embarrassing with pop stans think that rock bands aren't relevant when they influenced so many things in music today.
To be on a music forum, you should know the best artists in each genre. You should know Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Shania Twain for country. You should know Iron Maiden, Queen, The Doors, The Ramones, ect. Just like everyone knows the best pop stars like Madonna, Prince, Cher, ect.
Let me get rid of this account then. I'm only familiar with Prince and Madonna out of those people.
I can't fault y'all for willful ignorance, I really can't.
Somehow having the world at one's disposal coincided with a generation that really could care less about immersing themselves in anything other than Snapchat, the 'Gram, or their own insular communities.
It sounds fogey as ****. There will come a day you're just as outraged at how seeing how seemingly obsolete your faves are as it does to everyone up in arms about their favorite musicians. (I'm only 26 and it's already happening to me!)
True. Rock fans are super pretentious but how are pop fans here not? Just look at the members who vicariously live through pop critics and metacritic. Only difference is rock fans base their attitude on the legacy of the artists over anything else. Pop fans can't even form their own opinions when they don't let top 40 radio do that for them and you expect rock fans to take them seriously.
Most fans on ATRL don't stan for Artists because of chart positions and critical acclaim. They just use charts and acclaim as easy receipts in a discussion when they are there. It's very difficult to define Legacy and Impact by personal opinion alone without it being refuted whereas charts and critical acclaim can help prove A isn't local or that B is talented in alignment with the fans personal opinion.

Never heard of the bolded.
MAYBE Garth. Sounds a biT familiar.
What are you even talking about? Rock only started in the 1950's as the white descendant of Blues, Jazz and R&B. Rock is in no way the most iconic genre, in any regard. Blues came before and has far outlived it by simply continuing to influence so many forms of music since.
Why should anybody have to care about Rock more than a lot of other overlooked genres unless they actually like it. It is one thing respecting the foundations of music as we know it such as Blues or Classical music. But Rock is just there. Sure there is a lot of talent within the genre and affected a lot of people at the time of its popularity, but at the end of the day, its predecessors are much more important and should garner much more respect amongst musicians.
Making this about race? Typical SJW atrl I'm so bored. I mean obviously rock music came from blues and pop came from rock, you act like I'm some kind of white supremacist that thinks rock is the only good genre. You can either accept that rock music has had the most success and is the most iconic (decades upon decades of bands and artists, Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Guns n Roses, Nirvana, Radiohead, Mumford & Sons). The list goes on an on tbh and you can either accept it (you don't have to like it) or look ignorant.
Because these aren't just any bands, Pink Floyd and Radiohead are two of the best and influential acts in modern music. It's embarrassing that music fans on a music website don't know them.
