I'm really sorry but Leona isn't bringing it this era, when it was announced she was signed to Island I was like yes! She's going to make a comeback, but this material is just not the comeback type...
The thing is, if Leona needed songwriters and collabs she would have gotten them. Instead Leona already recorded songs on her own with no label so Island just got behind it afterwards. This is what Leona wants as sound and her team is supporting it
NOW THIS is what I needed from her. Way better than that "Fire" song. It does sound like a true Leona song and not like a Adele knock-off. It should have been the first single everywhere. So here for this!
Don't see why it can't become a decent-sized hit. The promotional campaign looks good - she'll be visiting many stations including a lot of iHeartMedia stations which is good. Plus many "Boring/Generic/Uninspired" songs have gone on to become hits in the US, so don't see why "Thunder" can't go on to do well.
It's cute. I think it reminds me a little of Roar. I prefer FUMF as a lead single though.
I don't think this will be a hit either, but she's in a difficult position because it's been so long she's had a hit. Even if she makes a good single choice, it's likely to be ignored by radio.
She sounds very confident!
