L-O-N-G-E-V-I-T-Y. "Turnin' Me On" just wouldn't leave radio and once it took off on radio it also took off on iTunes. Furthermore she's a debut artist and it was technically her first single. ("Energy" was a "buzz" single.) You can't compare that to somebody who, like you said, is so accomplished. "Obsessed" peaked and is falling now after a very short run.
Thing is, Mariah certainly doesn't have anything to prove, but with her kind of status she should be able to get a worldwide #1 with the snap of her fingers (like Madonna, lol).
