I feel the exact same way. Once I properly understood the meaning, it all came together for me. It's such a sensual... experience of a song.

Exhibit A: Chimimandia her whole speech.

Literally never thought I'd see something like that happen in pop music. I'm so proud—and so mad that she remixed it for the single. Otherwise it would have been on my list.

I really slept on this one last year, but I'm finally getting into it.

nnn let me finish this.
10. Rae Sremmurd - No Flex Zone (Remix) [featuring Nicki Minaj and Pusha T]
My entry in the LOLTrapRap of 2014 category, as Lifestyle took too long to grow on me, My *****/My Hitta still has not, and Coko overstays its welcome with two minutes to go. The kids acquit themselves nicely, and Pusha does his thing, but we all Nicki walks away with it? In the dark days of 2014, when an escaped kangaroo somehow topped the Billboard Hot 100, and seduced all those who liked "rap" without it's 'dangerous' elements (read: Black People), it was nice to hear a woman best the boys - and all her peers.

09. Paramore - Ain't It Fun
When I graduated (middle school), our unofficial song was Vitamin C's Graduation [Friends Forever]. Bittersweet, but perhaps ultimately too optimistic? #stillabop
The kids of 13-14/14-15 don't know how lucky they are, having a song that lovingly details when life stops being nice, and starts getting real. All with a Hayley Williams as wailer spin. Bastards.

08. Taylor Swift - Blank Space
Gone Girl without the sociopathy. The keenest, most self-aware statement by a musician this decade? Let's go with that. AND THAT CHORUS.

Perfect description for "Ain't It Fun." I'm 24, and it's still exactly what I need in my life right now.
"Blank Space" is excellent musicianship, but I wish the song was as good as the statement it makes. Maybe once I finally listen to 1989, it will hit me the way it should.

07. Beyoncé - Partition
I was initially a Huckabee in training about this song, as I found to be a bit problematic; what really troubled me, however, was the lack of a strong melody.
Then I read something (admittedly, on The Singles Jukebox) that changed everything around! Bey never loses control, not of the beat, and not of herself.

06. Tinashe - 2 On (featuring Schoolboy Q)
It's exhausting being an uncle in the new millennium. Imagine my displeasure when my (now 15) year old nephew knew, and loved, this song. He knew the meaning of it!
Who am I kidding? I ****ing loved it. I can barely get 1 on, but dammit if this wasn't my jam. Tinashe getting her Ashanti/Aaliyah/Ciara thing going, but with a disassociated Cali spin. Schoolboy Q being the archetypal DISGUSTING straight boy that girls somehow still ****. Mustard doing his best work on top of it. Goal for 2015: Find a 'clique' to bop to this with.

1-2-3-4 punch so far
Both of these are those BOPS. Partition oozes sex and 2 On gives me the need to get up and find the nearest party. It took me a little bit to realize its greatness but luckily I found it out.

05. Drake - 0 to 100/The Catch Up
"Marvin Gaye - he's great, you know. But Donny Hathaway? He just had that something ... like he couldn't contain himself." - Amy Winehouse
That's sort of how I feel about Drake? Not nearly the best MC around, but at his best, there's a je ne sais quoi that is enchanting. Heard this in a cab going over the Williamsburg Bridge in April; it clicked immediately.

Our teacher made us memorize and sing it in a ceremony the last day of school. I've learned to love it.
Love Blank Space, Ain't it Fun, Partition obviously.
I hope you're not talking about the "coko" song I'm thinking of..

04. Coldplay - Magic
Maybe a band member should consciously uncouple every year, as this is their best single since Yellow/Trouble. CLOCK ME. And also post Brandy's cover on Twitlonger please.

My actual middle school graduation song was Stevie Wonder's As. I was REBUFFED in the voting.
I tried to make this my close friend's wedding song last year, but her wedding was in May, and few in this country had heard of it! Perhaps if she had gotten hitched in September, it would have been a cinch.

Sister, I was with GIRL FRIENDS. The next time we all hung out late in night in Billysburg it was some ********. Honestly, I came out to have a good time and I just felt so attacked.

02. Charli XCX - Boom Clap
Or how to stay true to your sound, expand it to reach a larger audience, continue on the path of the outsider, and have layers of resonance. What a shoutout to the 90s!
